Speed up verify backup?

Is there any way to either speed up a Verify backup, or to force it not to do one unless it's by request?

 

It does a verify backup every time there's any kind of unusual shutdown of the PC, which is logical, but the problem is that a verify backup takes about 50% longer than a new full backup, so much so that there is no way they can complete in their time window, and for laptop users that's a killer.  They basically just keep trying a verify backup ad infinitum and never get backed up again without intervention.

 

Are, are there also any general tweaks that can be done on a PC to speed up backups of any kind, buffer sizes or anything?  Arcserve Backup itself has things like that and they can help quite a bit, so I was wondering if there was anything for d2d...
