Bioinformatics is the application of computer science to the field of molecular biology. Or so wikipedia defines it. As a relatively new field that definition is subject to change as the field is constantly changing. If you are interested in learning more about the exciting new field of Bioinformatics and a few of its applications, ARC Research Collaborative will be holding a brief introductory class on June 2 @ 7pm. At the start of the class you will be presented with a question. Something you won't be able to find via google, because it's as of yet unknown. In searching out that answer you will be introduced to various bioinformatics methods and tools. Which will include but not limited to...
At the end of the class, it is my hope that you will leave with a deeper understanding of what bioinformatics is and while you will probably leave with more questions then you walked in with (as is wont to happen it seems in science), you will have the tools to seek out the answers.
Laptops are not required, but may be of interest if you'd like to follow along.
P.S. On a related note, if you are interested in doing research over the summer and are local to houston, we've already got two projects in the works that could use some additional sets of hands, one on Biofuels and the other related to AD. We're also open to hosting additional projects.
