Hi,

I would like to gather some feedbacks or opinion from you guys, what
you think about http://planet.arcol.hu and its future.

The website used at the beginning Planetplanet,
then I switched to planet venus news aggregator software.
At that time it was only the yahoo pipe which timeouted a lot, and was
a pain to use, so was a nice alternative.

Since then a lot happened, basically yahoo pipe lost its popularity,
and now there are Google+ page about 3D printing
(https://plus.google.com/communities/117814474100552114108), so I
don't know
where this planet should evolve if at all.

a) Personally I would like to see some voting system by a group of
people (moderators). So some message could be marked clearly as spam
(or level 0), and some message as really useful.
Then at each month collect all the highest ranked blogpost and compile
a journal out of it (html, pdf, kindle output).

b) More outputs, especially Kindle delivered news for each morning or
mobile optimized page output.

c) some kind of proposing system, something like hackaday.com has.
Right now there are a fixed list of sources, where the news gets
collected. If more people would be involved then more reprap/3D
related stuff could be collected (or maybe it would be a replicate
effort of Google+ page?)

What software would be suited the best? Basically planet venus
development has been stopped, no newer version came out since I
installed it. Mabye there are better alternative out there atm.

What do you think? Do this site still have any usefulness? Should I
care about it?

Best,
Laszlo

Would something like Pligg work?

(i.e. similar to Reddit)

Hi,

pligg.com is very similar to wordpress.com, so it is not an *RSS feed
aggregator* (what the planet really is.).

Or I miss something crucial.

Laszlo

Not quite like wordpress.
The idea is to let people post links to other sites, with comments + community-based moderation and curation (via votes).

So, essentially, instead of having an automated, uncurated aggregator, you get crowd-sourced aggregation of links.

This is essentially how the 3D printing Google+ account works.

More or less, yes, minus the voting bit.
Or exactly like http://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/

Except those are not focused solely on news items ans links to other sites.

Hi,

What I would like is basically the current system,
with moderation and manual submission on top of that. And a few output
(like Kindle).

With Google+ my biggest issue is the nonsense (google) interface and
many unrelated news from big corporations without any real information.
(like 3D implants. No detail at all, other then it was a successful operation).

While the planet aggregates from bloggers only, with real infos
(ok makerbot stuck somehow into cache, but the other blogposts).

So what I'm looking after is the planet bugfixes and small improvements
without getting my own hand dirty with programming.

Best,
Laszlo

a) That's a really nice idea in my opinion
b) Not as big a deal to me
c) Yes, because I'd love to propose my blog for example.

The voting system would definitely be useful, but it would probably require accounts, which would be frankly annoying to use.

There's also issues, like the top post has been the same post for like the last week. I also wish I could keep scrolling in case I miss a week or something.
