Hi,

Just a little update to anyone:
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3788/10209007615_2b754e94e9_o.jpg

So I made an adaptation for 1.75mm filament, and I see the very same
result as with 3mm one.
The above photo was made using a 0.5mm nozzle, and 1.75mm ABS filament.

So the question for you guys, who want an adaptation to your *existing* v4 kit?
I think it will be in range of 10 eur or so. So fairly cheap.
Need to spread word though. I'm counting on everyone:)

Just a reply to this message who is interested.

Best,
Laszlo

Laszlo,

Please publish what current v4 owners need to purchase for a "full 1.75mm" upgrade.

The brass screw, and the ptfe tube needed to be changed.

Hi,

Maybe I should expand a little bit, what it is all about.

With this adapter, you are able to extruder 1.75mm filament
(tested with abs, but I'm going to test with pla soon) with the same
quality as with the 3mm filament.

No other modification was needed on my machine. So I could use the same hyena
too extrude (ok, I needed to swap out the grooved bearing to a normal
one), so it is a pretty huge think as is.
To be able to extrude whatever filament you buy without worrying of
quality decrease.

Some people prefer to use 1.75mm filament not because it is cheaper or
better quality, but simply it
can bended more then the 3mm filament, so he can put the filament
anywhere inside the machine,
and not really worry about the filament path.

Beside I got a 1kg spool of ABS filament for test (this is the first
time, I got that much:) testing filament),
so I needed a quick solution.

Said all this, the complicated path, I was talking earlier
(ie. adapting everything nozzle, barrel, even the extruder pusher) is
still on the table, but
I'm really uncertain if it will give any quality difference on the table.

So I'm releasing this adapter (new ptfe tube and new brass set screw)
this week, get it out,
gather feedback.

Wha tdo you guys think?

Best,
Laszlo

i really think that a new ss center piece is needed. Melted pla will
flow upwards and block the hotend.

Nicolas,

I will test the PLA filament as soon as I can. Still it is at least a
week ahead to be able to get a filament from somebody.

Until then, I will make sure, that everyone knows it is tested at the
moment 1.75mm ABS filament (and PLA testing is still ongoing).

Best,
Laszlo
