I’ve used mapbook on and off for the past 10 years and now i have my own company and I was wondering if it’s possible to have someone do some custom work for us on mapbook. I heard Arc10 will have a similar tool so I’m not sure if it’s worth wile at this point? I basically need to have 3-4 data frames in one layout that contain the same polygon file. Is it possible to have more than one data frame per page?

Thank you,

Hi Scott,

I'd wait and see what Arc10 can do for you before hiring somebody to change mapbook. See http://crazymotion.net/esri-arcgis-10-map-production-and-automation-in-arcgis-10/wM2k_XfDC0UUjAy.html at about the 2:30 mark. Also http://www.youtube.com/user/esritv#p/a/EF9C831EB76CDCA6/0/jgjAgKbe5l0

For multiple dataframes in current mapbook you need Detail Area Inset Tools, see download link at end of http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=1731&t=189771&g=1 and mapbkmanual09.pdf from http://code.google.com/p/arcmapbook/source/browse/#svn/trunk/docs.

The Inset Area Tools are not bundled with the arcmapbook project as the license status is not clear (e.g. I don't know if we are allowed to).

cheers,

-matt

I changed my mind. I looked through the detail inset tool archive from
that thread and it's pretty clear to me it's available under the same
terms as the original DS Mapbook sample itself. I've added the zipfile
as-is to http://code.google.com/p/arcmapbook/downloads/list

At a future date I may investigate integrating it with the current
arcmapbook release, but it's not likely to be soon. (If any one else
wants to do so please feel free.)

cheers,
