Hello,
good to see people working with GIS in arch linux! I usually use
UbuntuGis in UBUNTU (at work) and compiled most of the software from
slightly modified PACKAGEBUILS in ARCH Linux (at home).
A repository with binary packages, would save much time and effort to
many people.
It would be good to have the latest stable versions of:
- Quantum GIS
- GRASS
- "Orfeo Toolbox" and "Monteverdi"
- SAGA
- osgearth
- postgis
and maybe
- mapserver
- geoserver
- OpenJUMP
- gvSIG
- Openmodeller (desktop)
- and r packages like rgdal sptatstats etc!
I would like to collaborate with this project.
Regards.

Yep, that was the main goal.

This seems a todo list to me :) I will populate the website with this list, also.

Consider yourself in the dev team :) For the moment, we should be a couple of people, but if we find some other people like you (and Huub, which is going to be much more a tester) we are going to grow a lot and provide a good service to other Archers.

Thanks for your collaboration, regards,

Indeed a very good idea!!! Good to see we are in the air with a start
of the repos. I added the repos to my /etc/pacman.conf and actually I
am downloading the latest grass 6.4.2-1, which will replace the AUR
grass install!
The list of Leonardo is exiting, long and ambitious. A few packages
are new to me. Will have a look at it. At this time working packages
of Grass and Qgis (and maybe Mapserver) are good for me. But I am
always in to learn new ones (undiscovered treasuries ...). While
writing this message pacman finished the install from archlinux-gis
and it works. Will do some testing on a project I have at hand here.
Thx and kudos to Emiliano for this very good and highly necessary
initiave...

Hi guys,

I'm beginning to work on Leonardo's list, and the first one is QGIS.

At the moment I'm adding all the required dependency of QGIS as a
package, updating and polishing the PKGBUILD from AUR in the meantime.
This process is indeed quite long, so it might take more than (I) expected.

Thanks, regards,

qgis-1.8.0-4 is in the repo, for both architectures.

Please test the binary packages and then report feedbacks here.

I've seen some mess in required and optional dependencies when building QGIS, so I will revise the PKGBUILD as soon as I have a little time (the same thing is applicable to any other package in the repo).

@lantald: I put the PKGBUILD I modified on github, so if you want to, you can update/push directly to the remote on github, stated that you provide me your github email (if you have one :) ).

Thanks, regards,
