Hello all - Archivematica seems to only be supported on Ubuntu 18.04 which is EOL in April of this year.

Wondering if there's any news of it being tested/supported on newer versions of Ubuntu - either from Artefactual, or anyone using it out in the wild.

Cheers
Meg

I am also very interested in knowing how work is going on an Ubuntu 20 deb package for Archivematica and the storage service. We are starting to plan for upgrading all our U18 servers so know when we can expect the updated Archivematica packages would be very helpful.
Thanks, Don

Hi all,

Some of you may have noticed that late last year/early this year we hired a team of devs to focus on software maintenance- the topic of OS support is one that we are discussing now and will have news/guidance soon.

Cheers,

Sarah

We are also interested in the status of supporting Ubuntu 20.04 or 22.04, since the end of April will be approaching quickly, and would like time to test the upgrade before that date.

Thanks!

Hi again everyone,

Something has gone "off" in this thread on Google groups, there are a few posts that were made that Google is deleting for some reason... thankfully one contributor got a hold of me offlist and let me know. This is what he (Wim van Dongen from Picturae) has been trying to post:

"Does that also include an upgrade of the MySQL database, because - as you probably know - the current MySQL version Archivematica has on board, v5.7, will be end of life in October this year? Some of our partners have already asked us when Archivematica will be supporting MySQL v8, and frankly we ourselves are also wondering when - this year - an upgraded Archivematica (v1.14 ?) will be released. So, can you please be a bit more specific? Thank you in advance and best wishes"

To answer Wim's question, yes, MySQL and a number of other dependencies are also under discussion. We are likely to be targeting Ubuntu 20.04 (possibly 22.04 also, yet to be determined) and Rocky 8. What we are currently investigating is, what versions of what dependencies are supported by these OS versions. A factor when considering MySQL is that operators can essentially choose which version to target when installing Linux- but given that MySQL 5.7 is end of life so soon, an upgrade to v.8 is certainly on the table. Our AtoM and Archivematica Maintainers are working together as one team and we're also attempting to bring alignment between dependencies and operating systems used between the two products- this will make our work more efficient and make us better able to support all AtoM and Archivematica users.

Can I be more specific- please take this with a grain of salt given the stage we're at but I would anticipate a 1.14 release in the next 3-6 months.

I hope this helps! And if you are also a person whose message was lost to the Google Group Glitch, please contact me offline and I'll post your message myself.

Cheers,

Sarah

Hi all - here we are in April and I just wanted to follow up on this and see if there's a firmer timeline for a version of Archivematica that is certified to run on a supported version of Ubuntu?

I'm also going to post to the AtoM list as we have clients wanting to upgrade their version of PHP as well...

Cheers
Meg
