I noticed a comment by comms regarding ticket sales dates being September.
Note that I have been saying that we need to push this date forward to july/August at the latest in order for STEP to work properly.
This means to start the process of choosing the theme asap.
From memory, the general consensus was that we don't use the theme decided for 2019?

yes, the reply was:
Kiwiburn: New Zealand's Regional Burning Man Event Tickets are usually on sale in September. Keep an eye on the website and social media for on sale dates.

keeping it loose in case ticket sales later than hoped for

Does everyone want a new theme for 2020? If like to open submissions asap please if so.

I think we should open submissions for new theme ideas, because 2020 is such an iconic number. you know, the theme could be, Vision.

and I think we should include the winner for 2019 automatically on the shortlist as a theme option

i think its a bit mean picking a new theme. we picked one for a festival that never happened. apart from peoples own personal opinions on the theme, i don't see any reason why we wouldn't keep the same theme

The timeline entered in Google Calendar/Asana (taken from the excel sheet proposed at last years Summit) showed the creation of the event in Quickit 21 July 2019, crew tickets available 29th July 2019, GA tickets released 19 August 2019. Does this still seem suitable?

I recall that we accepted a new Theme would need to be selected to be fresh, I still think this to be the case.

We spent a lot of time discussing this and going over the timeline I proposed before agreeing on dates.
I appreciate it's stink for the person who submitted the winning theme that it wasn't used but it is a big deal that we cancelled the event and are restarting in 2020.
I think including the 2019 theme in the shortlist would be fair.

I think we should definitely have a new theme for the 2020 event.

The theme has usually been loosely topical and I think both the year off and the numerical significance of the date may (hopefully) mean we have some good submissions.
