Please see information below on the 2020 Burning Man Global Leadership Conference (GLC) (including application link).

NEW Burning Man Global Convening

We are excited to announce that Burning Man Project is launching a new global convening.

Connection and community drive the creation of art projects, events, camps, gatherings, civic projects, and other global Burning Man cultural initiatives. Enthusiastic participants throughout the Burning Man community share and grow ideas, create leadership opportunities, design initiatives, develop new skills, build effective networks, affect positive change, and above all, build year-round sustainable communities. Burning Man Project is proud to be creating a new opportunity for expanding participation and collaboration among current and potential community members, partners, and contributors. The first of these gatherings will take place in Spring 2020 in Reno, Nevada.

We hope to convene 1,800 creators, connectors, and cultural ambassadors for this exciting gathering, which will offer opportunities for storytelling, learning, teaching, growing, creating, and leading.

Burning Man leadership convenings have grown over the years to become a strong facet of our culture, and integral to maintaining a sense of connectedness between those who drive projects, events, and other initiatives across the world. We will build on our track record and highly valued outcome from 11 years of Global Leadership Conferences, eight years of Theme Camp Symposia, several Art Symposiums, Philosophical Center at Esalen gatherings, and countless other community-centric learning experiences as we create this new event. We will not produce a separate Global Leadership Conference or Theme Camp Symposium in 2020 – past participants in those events will instead be invited to participate in this new convening.

We look forward to collaborating with the local Reno Burning Man community for this Spring 2020 multi-day event. We plan to co-create programming and content tracks that support individual and community development, leadership principles and peer-to-peer sharing, and innovation for civic engagement. We anticipate participation from Regional Contacts, Regional event leaders, theme camp leaders, volunteer leads, artists, Burners Without Borders volunteers, Burning Man Project staff, Regional entities, affiliated organizations, partners, civic entities, and other collaborators and active community members from across the world. All of these groups will play a role in making this convening valuable and inspiring. There will be opportunities for all participants to connect more intimately and collaborate together. We plan to actively engage in outreach to people who have never participated in Black Rock City or who are new to Burning Man culture.

To support the cost of producing this large gathering and providing extensive opportunities for skill-sharing and learning, we will need to charge for attendance. This will not only ensure the quality of the event is high, but also that we create a sustainable and replicable model for similar events in the future. We will also have a scholarship program.

As a key stakeholder and/or past participant in a Burning Man convening, you are receiving this update before a broader announcement is shared with the public in mid-August. This is a personal invitation to jump in and join the conversation about this event. You might, for example, be wondering what this fabulous event will be called… we don’t know yet!

We aim to create a global, inclusive, educational, and inspiring experience through which we will dig deep, have fun, and generate impact and change globally. Got a great idea for a name? Or a content idea? Fill out this short google form by July 25.
