We’ve been contacted via the Electric Fencepost by a US based team who have concerns about securing their camp tickets to KB20, as they need to book flights soon.

This is a reoccurring concern with internationals, Im keen to hear opinions on this.

“Good afternoon,

After several “scout” visits to Kiwiburn, we’d like to bring our American regional camp to the KiwiBurn regional in 2020. We’ve been planning this since 2018 and are excited the dates are out. My crew is discussing plane tickets and the rest of our adventures. However, people are jumpy about buying 1K plane tickets without event tickets. We are worried tickets will go on sale when we are at Burning Man (which, for us, is mid-august until mid-september) and we will be unable to get tickets. I would like to ask the organizers for the ability to directly purchase 10 tickets at normal cost/etc in order to facilitate international travel. I am welcome to other solutions.

Thank you kindly for your time,

D
(Representing some assemblage of the BRC camp Fabulous Disaster inside the village of Gigsville and the US east coast regional BM camp Loud Erudite Goblins on Fire.)”

Tickets are planned to be released to the gemeral public in July or August. Early August at the latest obviously needs to be our cut off date of all those heading to the BM site for setup and any KB community members heading to BM.

Reserve tickets are for either crew (Under revision) and proven theme camps have access to x5.

We can't give special treatment to visiting participants.

I appreciate their position however they will need to join the public sale which should suit their planning.

If you could direct them to creating their Burner Profiles in advance please and let them know each account is only able to purchase x2 tickets.

Perhaps we could have a discussion on the possibility of including theme camps who have a proven track record at other official regionals in the theme camp reserve Tickets?
If they can provide a reference from their regional may be criteria to include?

do any other burns offer anything similar to international travelers?

I would be happy for certain international camps to be included in the reserve tickets, providing they are introduced to things like sound policy first, etc.

They'd need to register their theme camp anyway so they'd be introduced to all policies.

I think we need to discuss this further. I'll add it to the ExCom Summit agenda as part of the Reserve ticket policy discussion.

In the meantime, Geveta are you able to explain to them the ticket sale timeline, burner profile etc please?

I think this is a good idea as it aligns with kb policy to offer dgs for proven theme camps.

would be a good idea to ask lumos to ask regional network to find out what other burns do.

Could also use our BONZA contacts to see what they do

As well as your regional contact I am also a founding member of BONZA.

It is likely that KB tickets will sell out quickly, perhaps within an
hour like some of the other burns around the world. If this happens
there is the chance for many good things to not happen on the paddock
if key people can not get a ticket

Some events that sell out very quickly have DGS for key people and run
a lottery to get access to the remaining tickets.

because many organisers consider theme camps to be a key part of the
event, proven theme camps often get DGS for some of the tickets, a bit
like Ignition festival did.

Some events like Blazing Swan allow proven theme camps a selected
number of tickets for them to sell to their camp members at a special
price, the camps keep the difference between that reduced price and
the standard price as part of their camp fund raising.

Camps that fail their MOOP inspection may lose this privilege.

Adding this facility would be awesome for most if not all theme camps
including my Home for Wayward Girls and Boys that caters for
international travelers

DGS tickets are also handy for artists, if the awesome art piece does
not make it to our paddock because the artist could not get a ticket
then everybody misses out.

Cheers Lumos

Thanks all, I've relayed the points from above and provided links to Kiwiburn Profile create as well as this thread for their interest. Agreed that there is merit to discussing DGS tickets this year at summit.

We've had a response from D:

"Hi,

Thank you for your answer.  I have read the thread. I would like to ask that Goblins be considered for the direct sale, if it happens. Five tickets would be great. We are certainly able to provide excellent references from Transformus, Frostburn, Wickerman/SummerIsle, PDF, and Constellation. One of our local regional contacts is part of our camp. We are not a sound camp and have never failed a moop inspection (or even been scolded.)  Normally I would say we also bring art (we are most famous for the goblin market and fire installations) but we are traveling internationally and thus I don’t know our capabilities.  We are happy to register as a theme camp and agree to all rules. (I think we are going to be AmeriCANTs at this burn, as Geoff Cant is a critical member of our community and a kiwi. A primary part of this trip is to support our friend, who has had a real shit year.)

If kiwiburn sales happen after August 15th, our crew will be at Black Rock City and lack proper internet access to purchase tickets.  This remains my primary concern.  If ticket sales occur outside of that window (or not over Transformus or SummerIsle or another burn we do setup for) we’ll be fine and are happy to operate normally.

Thank you for your consideration.  Even if we are not part of the direct sale, I highly support them. Shenannings occur when the lead ranger doesn’t get a ticket!

With appreciation,

D"

i would be happy to extend our direct sales out to international theme camps if they have a good track record at other burns. we are a bit out of the way, and its not a cheap thing to invest in a trip over here. buying travel tickets early can save people a ton of money and some assurance would be nice to offer. would also be nice if other burns offered the same courtesy to us, so if we're the first lets start a nice trend
