Hey guys,

I'm trying to figure out a bit of a timeline for our volunteer recruitment and one thing I would like to know so we can team up with it is Ticket sale dates. I can't remember when they went on sale last year but I know we have used Sep 15 in the past.

I want to propose that we go with 10am Oct 14 this year. That is a Saturday so more people will be at home and its a couple of weeks after Burning Seed will theoretically be over. It is just over 3 months before the event which is enough time to get the revenue in to start spending it on the event, and close enough that most people will know whether they can go or not.

I would like to coordinate ticket release date with the release of all the department rosters to the general community. If Department team leads would like to open the rosters to returning volunteers before this this date we can discuss that.

Cheers,

Karl

to confirm: we had first release 12 october and second release of x300 tickets 5 January, tho, yes, the previous few years it's been 15 September which has been purposely between burning man and burning seed.

I feel september may be better for our overseas visitors planning to come - 24% of our population. just a consideration.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Is this being held up by the Quicket debate?

Nope. Quicket will be ready for me to start creating the event in a few weeks and I'm waiting for confirmation on ticket sale dates, participants numbers etc.

I don't really have a preference on this. I'm fine for it to go ahead anytime after the ticketing system is set up. If I recall correctly there were some people proposing various discounted/free tickets for volunteers, I haven't come across proposals to manage that at this point in time, setting a date would set a deadline for that getting organised.

def the sooner the better so we can get it set up and get familiar with it, especially as I believe we'll need everyone to make a burner profile to be eligible to purchase tickets

We can't set up the event on Quicket until the quicket dot com site is live, which should be soon. There's a lot to do but we'll be aiming for a September release. I presume this isn't something that needs a discussion or vote on since it was our previous release date and we only moved to October last year due to the Volunteer drive?
Ultimately though it will all depend on how Hayley and I go in setting it as we're new to it and there's a lot to go through.

The Quicket.com site should go live some time this month, I don't think we need to worry too much about this.

Also note that registration can be opened before tickets go on sale.

Is this all up and running now? Do we want to put out a link/info/announcement of some sort about the fact that people will need to register to be able to buy a ticket this year. i.e. not giving a date just yet, but outlining the process so that everyone knows a) why we're changing it and b) what the process will be.

Volunteers for writing something like this/getting it to Shelley?

Yup Quicket.com is up and we're building the event.

I'll write an explanation of the registration process for Shelley to put out.

Here is an announcement about Quicket, registration (burner profile), and some other features. The first short paragraph is for social media, then there's a longer kb-log post.

Shelley has already looked at this and made some edits.

Is everyone happy for this to go out?

Have we set a sale date yet? This is urgent.

I propose the same (or about) date and time as last year which was 12 October 10 am. Then we can make an announcement ASAP and it gives us enough time to get everything in order.

announcement of new ticketing vendor is scheduled for 11am today. need this info out there asap as will need to open burner profile registrations soon.

tickets have usually been on sale mid september. last year was an exception due to reverting back to cosmic at last minute. if possible, it is better to be earler than mi-october for people planning, esp theme camps and travellers. tho best to have everything in place.

over to jasmine and hayley to give realsitic on sale date? I think it was discussed at summit to be a saturday?

Yeah unfortunately we've run out of time for it to be September now. Hayley is heading to Burning Man tonight and we still have items to finanlise with ExCom and put in place on Quicket.
I propose Saturday 10 October 10am

In the interests of letting people get on with their jobs, and the in the spirit of not needing ExCom to micromanage everything, I don't see that a vote by ExCom is needed to set the sale date.

It's something that I would expect ExCom to be informed of, via the relevant facilitators so that we know it's on track, but I don't see the need nor the benefit of everyone one ExCom having an opinion on this.

I'll open a vote if everyone really wants me to, but I don't see the point. Let the people who are already doing the job, do their job.

NOTE: Tickets will go on sale SATURDAY 23 SEPTEMBER

The event will go live Saturday 2 September so participants can fill out their Burner Profile. No information apart from the event date and location will be visible until 23 September.

Hey, it's Urs. Long-time burner, first-time caller. :-)

Just felt I had to jump in here to point out that Saturday 23 Sep is election day. I know I'm going to be working pretty much non-stop -- issuing votes to people, mostly -- from 6.45am until 10.30pm that day, and I'm pretty sure I won't be the only burner doing so.

Is it possible to make it the 30th instead?

Cheers,
Urs.

It has been suggested that it was a good date because it was election day but i see your point.
The 30th is also the weekend of Burning Seed however.
If election day is genuinely going to be a problem then we will need to push it out to October.

I tend to think that any date is going to be difficult for someone.

My 2 cents would be to push it to October 10 or keep it at Sep 23.

Is there any reason we can just move it to Sep 24?

When are we going to announce dates?

It would be awesome if we could do it this week because I would like to do a big volunteer up date.
