Hi All
Regional Representative Justin McGhee has sent through information for BONZA (Burners of New Zealand and Australia) Summit 2021. Kiwiburn has the opportunity to invite up to 7 individuals to this Summit.
"Ahoy there Burners
Well that was certainly an intense year! Whilst 2020 has seen most Burns and gatherings canceled causing much pain to our community, we are looking forward to hearing at the summit how you and your communities are using 2020 as a catalyst for furthering collaboration & the ten principles.
Notwithstanding covid restrictions, the 2021 summit is going ahead!!! Invitations and further instructions will be emailed to all of you in mid February 2021.
Just a few points we need to share with you all;
- Name change – we will now be called BONZA (Burners Of Australia New Zealand summit) Burners love an acronym and BONZA certainly rolls off the tongue easier than the clunky ANZLS.
- The BONZA summit 2021 will be held in Brunswick, Victoria over June 4th, 5th & 6th.
- The evening of Friday the 4th will be our traditional social gathering with the Saturday and Sunday devoted to presentations and the Summit proper. We have an exciting new venue in the offing and are continuing negotiations with the venue manager - stay tuned!
- Our Summit, like the other 5 similarly independently produced summits in North America, is not an official BM regional event. We are not BM funded nor is the program or its content directed by BM. We are however very grateful for the encouragement we receive & the support offered from our friends at BM HQ. The only BM official summits/conferences funded and directed or partially funded & directed by BM are the European Leadership Summit, past Global Leadership Conferences and the Asian Summit last held in 2015 and due to make a comeback in 2021. We have asked whether official event status should be applied for and the answer was an emphatic no.
- As we have done since planning for the first Summit in 2017, we will continue to reach out to regional contacts and event organizers throughout South East Asia. In 2018 DragonBurn sent some representatives down to join us, they returned in 2019 and, fingers crossed, they will be back in 2021.
- We continue working towards having a website devoted to the Summit, this will be a repository for past presentations, links to other BM styled summits as well as be the hub for invite rsvps and the feedback survey.
- The producers are mindful not to grow the summit too quickly nor have too large an event. Feedback from yourselves and advice from BM staff, is that around 80 - 90 delegates is a manageable number and this, or slightly above this, is what we are aiming for in the coming years.
- The 2019 Summit was heavy on content (the presentations were amazing!!), but in 2021 we will endeavor to break things up, allowing for more connection time between delegates. The Summit is after all as much a networking event as it is for sharing news , learnings or stories from fellow Burners.
- The invite policy (see attached document) has been developed through conversations with representatives from each of the x 5 Burns, MelBurners, BOSS, BM regional contacts and through my work as a member of the BM Local Leadership Event Organizers committee - LLEO - (this is a group of summit producers that meet on a monthly basis and discuss better ways to produce summit) I’ve been fortunate to have been a member of this committee since its formation in November 2017, it’s been very informative and has helped shaped ANZLS BONZA.
