How are we going with this? Ca we please get a cost for the First Aid for Karl and Poppy and indication for when it'll happe

I'd also like to get onto booking Sitesafe soon - they'll want to know dates. We were going to book 2x groups of 15people, so an indication of when would work best for setup crew would be good.

Hi Wendy,

Sorry I started writing an email about this but got distracted.

First aid is $245 AUD each. I was going to get seed and kb to split the cost but I think at that price I'll just let kb get it and get seed to pay for an occupational first aid which builds upon basic. I might be able to swing this before Christmas but maybe not.

I'll chat to Poppy and work out a time to book.

Inductions sound great. I think around the 18th/19th would be good for this.

OK I'll wait for confirmation from Poppy of those dates as MPW would be one of the crews, and we'd want at least the Effigy and Temple leaders on site as well - then go ahead and book.

Thanks!  ;-)

I'll have a look at my timeline tonight and let you know. How long does it take?

Each workshop is an hour and a half, and is given to a maximum of 15 people. So a morning should do it.

Hi, just a nudge to see if we can pin down the available dates for this so I can get the ball rolling on booking it.

Whoops sorry. Yeah those dates do work although perhaps it would be good to do it a bit earlier as we may as well be safe as early as possible. Official build starts on the 13th.

Will the Effigy and Temple crews be there on the 13th?  I reckon the first day that everyone's assembled would be good, or as near as possible to it.

Yeah theoretically their first day of build should be the 13th. Karl are you able to confirm with them?

So I have realised that I don't have enough spare time to do a two day first aid course. I'm working 6-7 days a week at the moment and can't really justify taking any time off. I think Karl having the training should be adequate for the initial part of build.

Hey, just following up on this - did we get any word on when the Effigy and Temple crews will be on site?  I'd really like to get this training booked in soon.

Oliver, you were going to talk to them at Circulation?  I see some of the crews are talking on Facebook, so somebody must know when they're planning to get there.

I'm presently with a few members of the Temple build crew in Dunedin, yes. At this stage myself, and three-four other members of the Temple crew will be arriving on site on approximately 12-13th January. We're having a meeting before I depart Otago and upon doing so I should be able to offer further information.

Which brings me to this query - does anyone have any further questions I may ask of the Temple crew?

Quick Q - One of the Temple build crew is interested in taking the on-site first aid course for the team if the option is available. Would this be viewed as favourable, and viable?

Also, if memory serves me correctly it was intended that I take the course? May I please have this confirmed?

I think you may have some wires crossed. There is no on site first aid course.

30 people will be doing a on site health and safety course (I'll contact effigy and temple leads about this soon). Also some of us will be doing a CIMS course thing with Paul.

Hi,

Heard back from SiteSafe:

"We can run these workshops for you in Hunterville. Price will be $550 + gst each; up to 15 attendees at each workshop (we have some flexibility if you had an extra or two). As these are ex our Whanganui office no travel charge is applicable; this assumes all workshops are delivered consecutively. We will require a suitable venue to deliver – these are not classroom based so basically any sheltered (under cover) area will suffice.

If you could confirm your number of workshops ASAP and contact Katrina Guy (CC’d above) regarding invoicing."

So they could do a third group, or if there are only one or two extras over and above the 30 we originally thought, they could do it in 2 groups.  Either way works for me as we are well within our training budget for this year.

Poppy and Karl, can you please confirm numbers (ie will we need 2 or 3 groups) over the weekend, and also what the venue will be like in terms of shelter.  They are pretty open regarding dates, but it makes sense for it to be after the shade structure is up.

I've told them I'll get back to them on Monday to confirm numbers and date.

OK in the absence of a response from Ops, I'm going to assume 2 groups of 15 and organise that.  They will probably want a contact number for on site.  What number should I give them?

OK the safety training will be happening on the 15th of January (that's the Friday).

They'll be taking two groups.  The trainer will aim to arrive on site at 9am for a 9:30am start for the first session, and the second q

The second will start at 1pm.  They are going to try to tailor it to our needs (ie, volunteer crew not necessarily building experience, working at height, power tools etc) and will be aimed at behavioural aspects of safety.

They'll need a shaded area to do the workshops in, I assume the kitchen will be up by then and they can use it.  They don't need a classroom, just shade.

I have given him your contact number Poppy and the trainer's name is Tony Greeve.

Hey everyone,

Just had a call from Tony Greeve who delivered the safety awareness workshops this morning on site.  He admitted to being a bit skeptical at first due to not really knowing what we're about, but was impressed both with our level of organisation and with the receptiveness of the teams.

He said they'd be happy to tailor workshops to our specific needs in future, and I think this is worth talking about a bit in our end of year review at the Summit.  Meanwhile, I'm stoked, and happy to be able to pass on good news of things working.

Tony's an ex colleague of mine, I didn't know he was at SiteSafe, it was nice to catch up.

:)

Excellent news, he was a cool dude and I think it was helpful for everyone to get into a good safety mindset before building gets into full swing.

I must admit a couple of us were pretty terrified about worksafe coming onto site (especially our friendly land owner), but it went as well as it possibly could. It was also interesting to get a bit of a sense of what our obligations were under the current health and safety act. I still don't understand how it is all going to change in April though. Tony could turn out to be a valuable asset to us in making preparations for next year and understanding what if required of us.

Just a note, you needn't have worried. Tony is from SiteSafe, whose role is entirely advisory and training in workplace safety.

Worksafe is a different organisation, and they are the ones with the inspectors.  :)

Tony did mention they could probably help us with that, and they are probably going to send us some post workshop paperwork about that.

That's great feedback - sounds like theres been good prep, and we have a good group of people going in to the build phase.

I'm getting excited to see what site will look like when we arrive...
