This year was our first year asking for mutant vehicles creators to register with us and to do safety checks to ensure these vehicles were capable of moving around our paddocks safely.
Vehicles were checked to ensure
Their steering and braking systems were good enough when loaded with passengers.
The driver had sufficient vision or walkers were required when the vehicle moved.
Trailer draw bars could not be a danger for passengers to fall under.
Night operation required enough lighting to safely see other participants and be seen.
An assessment of the maximum number of passengers that could safely be carried was made.
Authorised drivers were given a wristband and made aware that speeding and other irresponsible behaviour would result in their rights to operate the vehicle being suspended.
We had a broad spectrum of mutant vehicles presented to us for checking and almost everybody was happy to see us and followed the rules, the only exception was the MPW sheep vehicle which refused to be checked or registered in any way and was reported multiple times speeding around.
It was pleasing to see that all presented vehicles were passed for use on the paddock with some suggestions made to the creators about how they could improve their vehicles for next time.
The plan is to soon start talking to our community to encourage them to think about creating Art that moves and to ensure that they consider safety when designing and building their creation.
I look forward to seeing what our community comes up with in the future....
