Hi Team,
Call outs for the Temple and Effigy have been posted this morning.
Thanks to Ronan and Shelly for providing input and to Tanya for our initial discussion on Safety.

If you read the call out I have modified it to include LNT process in the event the Burn doesn't happen due to weather conditions.

I have also asked for the type of materials to be considered due to risks to embers relating to property and environment damage.

I would like to propose complete transparency of our selection criteria to the community and we will be selecting the winning proposal on several criterias pretty much similar to the process we did for the poster. The aim is for it to be objective not subjective. By sharing this to our community again its stops any social media complaining dead on its track. We will always get some but if we are clear on our process then people wont argue as much.

All designs are reviewed based on merits not by who is building it.

This is something I came away from at the ANZLS and very keen we start doing this as Kiwiburn we should be about being Inclusive.

Keen to get your thoughts on this of course.

Regards

Thanks for this Diia.

Do you mean that the KAC won't know who has submitted?
While I do agree with this selection propose you've mentioned above, how do we ensure new people are getting the opportunity to be involved? If it's the same crew every year (even selection by merit will involve them mentioning the experience of the team), but we have community members who want to get involved but aren't in those "inner circles" perhaps we can consider a new requirement that the teams take on a couple of new selected applicants to train as part of radical inclusion and passing on the experience to encourage future applicants?

I support objectiveity, so that the best design gets chosen, as well that team showing capability.

Hey all,
Sorry I have been quite, have been sick with a virus as well as the flu.
To answer some questions

1. The design will be shared but not necessarily the name of the designer , there will be several criterias it will be scored against, one of the things important is the content of the information provided , so if we receive one that looks amazing but no content we will go back to the person and help them to get it filled out correctly. And yes mentioning years of experience and whether they have build an effigy in the past will give away names, what I am getting at and learning from other burns, is that it needs to be more than just that, that gets in nominated.
Information such as how they will be planning to ensure a leave no trace plan in the event of a "no burn"is key, to understanding how budget's work. For years now we are blowing our budgets whilst I totally support artist's creativity and not limiting them, there are also artist's out there who have managed to stick to a budget, this from my first hand experience running the art for ignition. And also having helped built Temple for 2018 which went well under budget. The main thing is having constant check ins and for artist's to get assistance on understanding their budget and know when to escalate if they think they will blow out so we can work to minimize the hurt.

2. In terms of community involvement, what I am seeing, learning and experiencing within other burns, is that past leads have been encouraging and setting up workshops to assist and build skills within the community for new people be involved in the build. There were will always be a core crew, however it is encouraging new people to join, by first having workshops leading up to the build. Seed is currently doing this and I am finding and observing a cross section of community , male/female old/new to builds getting in early. This is something  we  should be engaging with our past temple/effigy leads so that again we are creating a pool of people within our community so that we are not "burning" out our constant leads on temple and effigy.

3. By being transparent to our community , it will open up to people out there who may not have thought about being part of build for temple and effigy or even design because before it just felt like a "closed door". The more we share our processes  we will also encourage people in the community that may have skills we don't have to step forward and feel like they are part of Kiwiburn.

Hope that answers some of the questions.

Cheers

Diia
