Hi all,

This is my official resignation from my role as Site Safety Facilitator, this is also my official resignation as Event Manager/Operations Manager.

There are two primary reasons for my resignation as EM/OM, I am going to keep it brief.

1) I cannot continue to work full time onsite for 4+ weeks unpaid, the loss of income is too significant. This is a large sacrifice that I have been making for many many years and can no longer justify financially.

2) Despite the success of onsite management in dealing with the majority of the planning, the onsite work & some significant incidents/issues we/I have continuously butted heads. The Excom's inability to acknowledge/respect/support/guide the EM/OM team/me has been a major roadblock in actually getting on with making KB happen, this has also increased my/our stress and workload considerably.

Please keep in mind that when I say Excom I am not referring to any specific individuals, rather the organisation as a whole.

I will make myself available for handover discussions so please let me know how you would like to do this.

All the best,

Poppy

oh wow, that is a big decision. good on you for making it. you have been such an integral volunteer over the years, and it may not be the case, tho it has felt to me like your heart hasn't been in it for a while. thank you for everything you've contributed to kiwiburn over the years, and best wishes for future endeavours.

Thank you for what you have done for the community creating an amazing event Poppy.
You have given so much and I'm really grateful for all your hard work and dedication.
There's some big boots to fill.

Thanks for your years of dedication to Kiwiburn, it's going to be weird without you! But also thanks for stepping down now so we have enough time to find people to fill your various roles.

Do you think you'll attend Kiwiburn / volunteer during the event within management team or take a (well deserved) break next year?

I'm feeling reinspired after summit so will stick around a while longer- however I was wondering about advertising both the services and site safety facilitator roles - giving the choice for people wanting to join the excom as to what depts they are interested in. If we don't have applicants I can wear either hat.

I also could help with the cleaning out and transferring documents from the email accounts you've been using.

A start to the handover process would be to get the job descriptions for your roles written. I think we should start with the facilitator role. Event manager is going to be a harder role to fill and we may need to spread responsibility until we can find someone suitable.

Thanks Poppy. You've certainly done wonderful things and given a lot of love to the cause over many years. It will be an interesting transition - as Jaz said you'll be leaving big boots to fill.

The files that were present in the operations/event management email have now been moved into our KB drives where appropriate (20 odd files, most owned by others), this occurred as I was setting up Event Manager file access and Asana stuff. I'm happy to help with filing related things as well if needed. Good call re job descriptions Tania.

Poppy - maybe you could work with Renee to do a brain dump of tasks list for each role?  We can then input these into Asana moving forwards as a helpful starting point.

Just in regards to a brain dump or hand over, with Jaz heading to Melbourne shortly I'm not sure if you'll have time to discuss and work through some of this in person? Might be easier face to face.  Maybe Renee can help with this process?

I've attached the Asana task list print outs of the Site Safety Department and the Event Management Department (PDF prints being the only export option). These were taken from exiting task and added to accordingly (including from Summit). It could be a good starting point to read through these and note missing items. If we got a transcript of these ideas, I'm happy to go through and add them. Jaz, Jo and Kali - as the current 2iCs it could be a good idea to think of any particular questions or areas of attention you'd like some clarity on.

Also, given Poppy's immense volunteering run, should we draft a public announcement thanking her for her contributions over the years? It's a big change, and would be an opportunity for a final thanks from the community to Poppy.
