No further info, the box containing the error details allows text to be
selected but I can't copy from it. I would do a screengrab instead but
the window also can't be resized and as there are several pages of info
it's not practical, at least not today when I'm so tired! *yawn*. The
system claims to be attaching extra info automatically though so
hopefully that will contain whatever you may need. Thanks. Roger.

Looks like you manually removed (or moved) the /etc/apache2/mods-
available/reqtimeout.load file. This is supposed to be handled through
a2enmod. Recreating that file (or purging and reinstalling apache2)
should work around this error.

We should guard for that case by adding a || true and/or a slightly more
precise versioning in apache2.2-common.postinst.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2

I got here after an automated message report by Ubuntu.

In this case, the update just reported failing and the bug reporting
process took me here. Synaptic reports apache2.2-common
2.2.14-5ubuntu8.2 as latest AND installed, so it seems like it didn't
fail completely... hopefully it didn't leave apache in an unstable
state since that post install script failed.

Apache seems to be working fine, though... and... important... this
is not a production system, just my personal laptop I use for
development.

I would not have reported this if it was not for a desire to contribute
with the info, so I hope it is useful. I don't think I really need a
resolution myself, but the community might.

ProblemType: Package
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04

Hi,

I could be wrong, but it looks like apache-common refused to complete configuration
due to some complaints. Please see DpkgTerminalLog.txt attached and address those
issues, and see if you can then complete the upgrade. In particular, there are
critical configuration files like /etc/default/ufw which are world writeable, and
apache directories like /www/af/ which do not exist.

** Changed in: apache2 (Ubuntu)

Status: New => Incomplete

This happened to me, too, and I certainly have never manually removed
the reqtimeout.load file - it must have been something aptitude did in
some previous upgrade stage. However, copying reqtimeout.* from
/etc/apache2.orig/mods-available to /etc/apache2/mods-available allowed
me to continue upgrading apache2-common.

Agreed with David, I haven't moved or deleted the file, yet it
disappeared. For some reason I don't have the /etc/apache2.orig/
directory on my system so I manually recreated /etc/apache2/mods-
available/reqtimeout.load with this content:

Agreed with David, I haven't moved or deleted the file, yet it
disappeared. For some reason I don't have the /etc/apache2.orig/
directory on my system so I manually recreated /etc/apache2/mods-
available/reqtimeout.load with this content:

LoadModule reqtimeout_module /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_reqtimeout.so

The upgrade went on normally after that.

Fixed the world & group writeable problems but I still get dependency

Serge, BTW... about "/www/af" and other directories under /www that
seem to be missing, they are actually not part of Apache but my
particular configuration with virtual hosts... I have some leftover
.conf files in /etc/apache2/sites-available that are pointing to old
sites which I have since removed. Thus the warnings... nothing to
worry about...

Ok, found a fix... I don't think it's particularly elegant (reminds me
of Windows), but it seems to have worked...

According to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/576255, I tried
what "serggt1" (post #6) suggested. For me, it complained about the
upwards dependency of the PHP5 mod:

xxxxxx/$ sudo dpkg --purge --force-remove-reinstreq apache2.2-common
dpkg: dependency problems prevent removal of apache2.2-common:
libapache2-mod-php5 depends on apache2.2-common; however:
Package apache2.2-common is to be removed.
dpkg: error processing apache2.2-common (--purge):
dependency problems - not removing

Errors were encountered while processing:
apache2.2-common

Uninstalled PHP5 completelely and then tried the "dpkg --purge --force-
remove-reinstreq apache2.2-common" again. No complaints this time.

Then reinstalled apache2.2-common and then PHP5.

Looks like everything is OK now.
