Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with latest updates. I guess you see all necessary information from attachments.
During boot, I get error message:
"udevd[80]: worker [XXX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it"
XXX is number around 240, see the picture.
I didn't find any information about that in logs, so I took a picture. I tried to google for similar bugs too but I didn't find any – I'm sorry if there are.

I have had this same problem as well. I have been trying to figure what
is causing it, but I just can't figure it out. I am running a stock eee
pc 1000.

I tried the newest mainline kernel (just in case) and this error happens
with it too.

This bug makes the boot experience very bad because the beautiful Ubuntu
boot screen starts after this and it takes ~3 seconds.

** Changed in: udev (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Confirmed

I think the bug is specific to netbook hardware. I see it to on my
Aspire AOA 110, too. That is the very same model as Elias, same specs
but newer BIOS 3309.

apparently this only appears on netbooks... So is it hardware-related or
Unity-related issue? Did anyone try generic (not netbook edition)
Maverick on the same machine?

And another netbook with that same error.

Dell Inspiron Mini 910 (atom n270, 1gb RAM, 8gb SSD)

Have tried with both Desktop and Netbook editions of 10.10 final (tried
them both this morning) booting and installing from a USB stick.

I used to have my system (10.10 netbook) installed with / in xfs, and
never experienced this problem. Today I switched to ext4 and started
seeing this. Don't know if this may cast some light on the problem...

** Description changed:

Binary package hint: udev

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with latest updates. I guess you see all necessary information from attachments.
During boot, I get error message:

"udevd[80]: worker [XXX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it"

XXX is number around 240, see the picture.
I didn't find any information about that in logs, so I took a picture. I tried to google for similar bugs too but I didn't find any – I'm sorry if there are.

I have no additional insight in fixing this bug, but at least it is
possible to just hide it.

I repeat: The following does not fix anything, just hides the error
message.

In Terminal enter:

sudo -s
echo FRAMEBUFFER=y >>/etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash
update-initramfs -u

This loads the framebuffer at start which hides the errors. Taken from:

I receive the same error on nearly all boots.

Fresh install Ubuntu 10.10 final release

Since I can't find info in /var/log and am unfamiliar with debian

Thank you,

Makes no difference for me on a HP mini 110 running ubuntu 10.10 with

Pity - I'd be happy with a solution that simply hid it.

I've got rid of the problem by adding acpi=off to /etc/defaults/grub.
i.e.
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=off"

The downside is that I'm left with only a command prompt and no Unity netbook shell.
There's probably a better solution somewhere.

Yes, as you can see, many netbook owners have this problem. I guess this
is nothing serious, just very annoying and it makes the boot experience
very bad. I wonder why no one developer has commented this.

Well, since 9.10 my boot experience was getting poorer and poorer :) Yes, it
boots faster but at the same time, more and more errors keep popping up, or
new boot themes don't work, etc. I tried arch linux not so long ago (few
weeks maybe) and while it uses udev, I haven't experienced anything like
this so I assume this is maverick's fault. I'm not going to discuss whether
this worker error is serious or not, but it doesn't do anything good to
attract more people to use Ubuntu :) Back to 10.04 and I'm disappointed even
more now, as instead of one error, I actually get two now.

same thing on an asus eee 901, fresh maverick unr install on a 4gb ssd
(/ is ext4 /boot is ext3). i think it happened after messing a bit with
nm-applet and indicator-* packages... till now only an aesthetics
problem.

The same problem for me, on an Asus eeepc 901, with a fresh install of
Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook edition.

I've checked kernel boot messages using "dmesg", and I've seen a
suggestion to update my BIOS.

I have done the BIOS update, and after that the error messages were
gone, but only during the firsts two boots. Now, the "udev[80] worker
.." error messages are present on every boot again.

Eee pc 901:

apparently, disabling hyper-threading technology in BIOS solves the
problem... BUT: computer becomes considerably slower (or this is just
an impression?)

Good point, I have tried now to disable hyper-threading on my eeepc 901,
and this solves the error message... but yes, it seems slower.

Hyper-threading is one of the best things in Intel Atom and it makes your system faster. So you shouldn't disable it. :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-threading

But anyway this is good information; the problem is someway related to
hyper-threading.

Significantly slower, and management of ventillator is no longer if we
remove the Hyper-Threading on a eeePC 901 ;-)
It is loading more messages.
