Hi,

The next Software Architecture meetup will begin with some excerpts from Coda Hale's excellent "Metrics, Metrics, Everywhere" talk, to underline why metrics and monitoring are such important things to do.

We will then go through a couple of the more popular tools that have recently been developed to facilitate the gathering of metrics - graphite, statsd, diamond, sentry, and a quick demo of New Relic.

Topic: Metrics and Monitoring
Date: Tuesday, October 16
Time: 18:30

We don't have a sponsor for beer yet, if anybody feels like stepping up. Stragglers will head to dinner afterwards.

As usual, any feedback you wish to give on meeting times, days, locations, and other logistics, please mail me privately.

If you are on Facebook, you can RSVP on the event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/504477446246333/
Otherwise, we hope to see you there.

Cheers,
-Jonathan

Just a reminder, this is tomorrow.

I will be going over Coda Hale's metrics talk, Peter Juritz will be demonstrating ganglia, Adrian Moisey and Bradley David Whittington will show off the graphite/statsd ecosystem, as well as a quick demo of New Relic, and Stefano Rivera will show how sentry works.

(And Amazon Web Services will be sponsoring drinks.)

See you there!

Thanks for coming, everybody who was there - it was a great turn out.  Thanks especially to Amazon Web Services for sponsoring the drinks (going above and beyond with the craft beer selection!).

This is the full video of a rendition of Coda Hale's original talk whose slides I used for my introduction to metrics this evening. Watching the full thing is highly recommended as an overview of why metrics and monitoring is so important to software development:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czes-oa0yik

Adrian will post his slides soon, as well as pertinent links to the systems we discussed this evening.

See you next time!
