Hello and happy 2025 everyone,

Checking in with a few exciting Archipelago community updates.

First, we are happy to announce the official soft launch of the District of Columbia Public Library's Archipelago, Dig DC: https://digdc.dclibrary.org/. Congratulations to the DCPL team on the successful launch of your new Archipelago repository!

We also are happy to share that for only the 16 Archipelagos listed on our ‘In the Wild’ page under the section covering instances managed directly or supported by just the METRO Digital Services Team and institutional partners, Archipelago is now providing a digital home for over 3.5 million objects and collections. Comparing figures from our last June 2024 update shared as part of our 1.4.0 Release Announcement:
  • Total Top-Level Digital Objects: up from 570,000+ to 812,000+

  • Total Digital Objects including all subcomponents (pages, transcripts, mixed media/compound items): up from 2.65+ million to 3.5 million+

Congratulations to all of our Archipelago community partners on the steady growth of your wonderful digital collections!

Lastly for today, sharing a reminder to attend this week's first Open AWG meeting of 2025, taking place on this Thursday, January 16th at 10am EST, click here for the zoom link.

Looking forward to working with you all more throughout 2025!
Allison

Hi Allison,

Great to see the Dig DC site, soft-launch. Exploring a bit (Crain Photographic Collection and Creating and Teaching Real World History Collection), thumbnails display but no full-size images as of yet.

Thanks, for the updates. Always exciting to hear more about Archipelago's in the Wild.

Hi Carl,

Thanks for checking on the Dig DC site. There was temporary outage earlier today, and should be resolved now.

Also, everyone please keep in mind that the DCPL team is still working on completing their full migration. Their team is currently ingesting tens of thousands of additional objects most days of the week. Please keep in mind during any temporary downtime or loading issues. The migration phase will be completed over the upcoming weeks.

Have a nice evening & rest of your week everyone!

This is wonderful - congratulations! So glad to see so many Archipelagos, and the DCPL site is fantastic. (I really like the ability to facet by DC neighborhood.) Adding almost a million additional objects in that time period is phenomenal. I agree with Carl - it is wonderful to watch the community grow along with the availability of content.

Best,
Joanna
