Hi Folks,

I just wonder whether we can install/run simulators/tools other than
the ones installed on archer?

Thanks

Sure. You can install any tool on your local appliance and use that.
You can submit the binary along with the other scripts (or use ganfs)
for running jobs on remote nodes.
Hope this helps

Hi,

As Girish pointed out, yes, you should be able to install other
simulators without problems - we've used SESC, simplescalar, SimNow/
CoTSon, among others. In fact, the only simulator we have installed on
Archer is Simics, as a special case because it is widely used and has
to be configured with a license.

Which simulator do you have in mind? One thing that would be great is,
once a simulator gets installed, that we create a Wiki document on the
Archer page describing to others how to replicate the installation.

If you have any questions in the process, let us know.

Thanks for the reply.

I have used many of the simulators at archer in previous research.
Currently I am exploring some new simulators (simics is too slow for
some studies, simplescalar is now too old, SESC is ok but
is not easy to compile newer benchmarks for it).
I am currently looking at:

* zesto:
http://zesto.cc.gatech.edu/

* graphite:
http://groups.csail.mit.edu/carbon/?page_id=111

* McPAT:
http://www.hpl.hp.com/research/mcpat/

I have looked at M5 too (http://www.m5sim.org/wiki/index.php/
Main_Page).
