Dear all,
Most of you have started to solidify your sketched proposals after our
first charrette. Before you reach a finalized design plan for
intervention, we would like to conduct another in class design
exercise focused on a specific task.
Please bring in all of the site analyses- drawings, sketches,
diagrams, drafted reports- that are relevant to your proposal and the
sketches you have attempted to draw out an architectural scenario that
can be supported by your argument.
Since this is a design charrette, you will need to bring in scaled
plans + sections that describe the existing condition and that will
play a major role in your proposed intervention: the existing problems
and potential areas for intervention; the topography and existing
elevations(RLs) that you need to work with and that you want to re-
establish; based on your site analyses, what are the new buildings/
programs/spaces you want to propose?
Bring pens, scale ruler, colouring pencils, lots and lots of butter
paper, yellow trace and whatever medium that you would use for
presenting your design. In this exercise, for the purpose of
communication, 3D representational tools are not mandatory but highly
effective: quick study models, SketchUp modeling/visualization,
conceptual model centered on a theme. Please bring your laptop and
everything that will help you “solidify” your proposed intervention in-
progress.
We’ve got 2 more weeks leading to the final review. Please express all
you’ve gained from our 3 exercises so far for your proposal. This in
class charrette will help you start working toward an architectural
programme.
We will commence at 9:30 AM sharp and finish at 130 PM followed by
feedbacks from 200 PM on. Ramin has a massive deadline on the15th and
won’t be able to come in for an additional tutorial, but he will be
available for emailed Q & A. Shaowen will be happy to talk to you on
WK13 and by appointment only. Have all your questions regarding the
final submission ready tomorrow so we can be sure to cover them. We
are going to post the list for final submission after Friday’s
exercise.
You should wrap up your group site model soon. We would like to put
all of your submissions and site analyses onto one set of CDs, so all
of you can have a copy. We are still short of: E2- Adrian+Nick, Carl
+Steven; E3- Erik+Paul(Redfern), Leonard+John(Artarmon). Please bring
in your CD tomorrow so we can finish the task once and for all.
