Ive been trying to use more detailed textures from the material
folders in sandbox 2. so that i can have better looking cliffs. When i
chose a larger texture i get the error "Layer texture format
introduces quality loss - use lossless format or quality can suffer a
lot"

I have used the video below to try and fix it and im doing exactly
what is stated, though i cant seem to get the better looking cliff
textures working as the same error keeps coming up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am also having problems doing textures but not just higher quality,
although I am attemting similar to Daniel! I am trying to add rock
faces. I have followed tutorials but my menu is different from that
in the tutorials on youtube so it is hard to follow as I don't get the
same options and the result is mostly I cannot get it to work. Also
my texture, which very occasionally I press the right buttons in the
right sequence and it comes out (more often than not though it is just
white) is only textured when viewed up close and not from farther
away. I guess that the material mapping (like in 3ds max textures)
could be increased but I don't know how to do that either.

If anyone can help me applying textures (the dummies version!) I would
be most grateful!

Jules Cromarty has a couple of great tutorials on terrains and
textures linked to his blog (which is linked to the course blog ...
or
here: http://www.arch1101-2010jc.blogspot.com/ )

this is his link to the textures tutorial:

... and all became clear!

Russell answered Candice's post on this but when I search textures
this is the 1st discussion I get so copying it here to stop a paper
chase!
