Hi All, place your tips and tricks for using Sketchup here.

Keep in mind this thread isn't for full tutorials, but quick one line
helpful suggestions.

I'll kick off with:

Use the "Hot Keys" to speed up your modelling: (you can find them
listed, and even change them, here: Window > Preferences > Shortcuts).

L = Line
P = Push
E = Eraser
M = Move
Q = Rotate (I guess they can't all start with the first letter of the
word that describes what they do aye ...)
S = Scale
Space = Select
Ctrl + C = Copy
Ctrl + V = Paste
G = Make Component (you'll need to do this before you export your
models to Crysis Wars later on in the course ... but it keeps things
tidy in normal modelling situations too).

Holding down and dragging your middle mouse button = rotate the scene
Holding Shift down as well = pans the scene
Rolling the middle mouse button = zooms in and out

There are plenty more, but these will get you started ... someone
might like to post the Mac versions of these keys, my other machine is
at home...

Cheers

Hi Russell,

When I export my animations with the animation export options as you
recommended, it comes up blank, but when I use the default settings,
it works but with bad resolution. I don't know what to do..

Also with each animation, are we to have only 3 scenes per animation,
or can we have as many as we like?

Thanks,
Caroline.

Hey everyone- HERE'S A TIP!
I had the problem that when I exported the block to Sandbox only a few
surfaces appeared. If you have this problem too, make sure you apply
your own surface texture to the shape and do this when it is NOT a
component. You can triple click to select all surfaces of the shape,
apply the texture and then make it a component. If it is already a
component, explode it first, then apply texture.
:) hope i helped!

TO MAKE MULTIPLE COPIES OF OBJECT IN A SEQUENCE eg stairs!

- Triple click object to select all connected geometry
- Edit>Copy
- Hold down 'Ctrl' whilst selecting the move/copy key (Important to
keep holding 'Ctrl')
- Continue to hold 'Ctrl', left click and move the copy into position,
release when positioned
- type 'x 15' if 15 occurences in sequence required
- 'Enter'

If you don't keep holding 'Ctrl' you'll never make it!
