Hey Chris,
Great to have to reach out. From your description it sounds like AR is a great place for you. Full members have access to the space 24/7 and we have many members that work over the night time hours :)
The short answer to your Question is:
--> "Anything that reasonably supports the space, can count as Volunteering" Ask a member of the board if you aren't sure.
The Long answer to your Question is:
--> The 2 hour volunteer timeframe is actually pretty easy to hit, and we aren't super strict on it. What I mean is that it's 24 hours over the course of the year, and if that is a few hours here and a few hours there then that's fine. We have some members that will work a booth at something and get 5-8 hours in one quick go. Other members teach a class on something they are interested in and get several hours that way. All the way down to just doing some cleaning around the space (not just cleaning your "mess" up but additional cleaning etc), and that adds up pretty quickly. To my Knowledge we haven't removed a member over volunteer hours to date.
For Next steps
--> I would join our Discord server. Unfortunately this email group has become less and less used over the years. So getting much of a response here is going to be iffy, a few of the older members still monitor it for just this reason. I will directly email you a single use code for access to the discord server, as that is where the majority of conversation happens in the last few years.
--> If you haven't visited the space, we have folks keep the space open on Tues and Sunday from 7p-10p every week (barring holidays) and that would give you a great chance to see what we have and the folks that hang around. If those days don't work, then check out the calendar on the website and anytime something is listed that isn't a "Private event" you can generally swing in and check the place out. I can say I'm hosting a "how to use the lasers" Class on Tuesday the 22nd and A board game day on Saturday the 26th and would be happy to show you around, and both events should have other "not members" at it.
