Firstly, thank you all for building your community. As an engineer turned educator I am always looking for people to learn from. I am new to St. Louis and a new teacher in the city. I work at a small Montessori Adolescent school (7-9th) on Washington Blvd in Grand Center (across from Cardinal Ritter). We do project based learning for our science classes and this semester the students are researching construction projects for our outdoor space. We have everything from building a shed and a "chucks" coup, to basketball hoops and an American Ninja Warrior ramp (idk :/). Unfortunately most students have little to no experience building anything. So!

Is anyone interested/available in running some sort of an "Intro to Tools" or "Intro to Building Stuff" class for my students? We have 18, 7-9th graders who are available during the day just about any day of the week (we are super flexible). All feedback and ideas are welcome. Thank you in advance for your interest.

Hi Andrew,

I am not a teacher and don't feel like I'm in the position to run a "Intro to Tools" or "Intro to Building Stuff" class for your students, but I will volunteer to assist (e.g. help oversee/teach kids how to use specific tools as they build their project) if you do find someone to lead do this or put together a curriculum and teach it. I'm a member of Arch Reactor and am familiar with the woodworking tools, 3D printing, and laser cutters. I've volunteered in an after-school coding program before, but haven't done anything specific to using tools other than a computer.

Hey Andrew,

I'll toss in like Nathan... I'm not really solid enough to teach a Class, but if you get something scheduled with some Lead time I can likely help as an assistant.

OK, cool. So what about getting a tour of the facility and doing an informal explanation of different things in the space? We have a tech lab called FUSE with a 3D printer and a small tool drawer/workbench, but nothing specific. Can a member bring us on a tour? And we would need to do it during the day.

Andrew,

I'd be happy to arrange a tour of Arch Reactor for you and your class during the day. You can contact me off-list at nat...@schrenk.org to coordinate a date and time.

Nathan
