I never know exactly what to put on the forum or what to put it under. I get so much information about so many different things ---I know Pam gets all the dog food/treat info so I know it will show up on the forum.
I get tons of stuff about PETA and HSUS --but don't want to step on any toes --for instance HSUS has now published a 6 page breeder identifier/reporter form so that people can report a breeder to HSUS who, then, will presumably get identified as a "puppy" mill and run them out of town, tarred and feathered; financially ruined and without all their dogs.
I am torn about the breeding thing --I do believe in S/N (all of my animals --dogs/cats/horse are altered) however, I do believe that I should have the choice of making an informed decision about doing major surgery on my animals and whether I want to have it done. Most of my animals are rejects from irresponsible people but there have been the purebred dogs I have purchased. And I want to continue to have the choice of buying a dog from a responsible, ethical breeder or purchasing (this is a whole other subject) one from a shelter/rescue.
HSUS is setting itself up as a non-government agency with the tacit consent of the government (such as it is) and inserting itself into citizens' lives with no authority. I am very concerned with person reporting person ---sometimes the charges are founded and other times they are malicious and the person being charged has no opportunity to confront the accuser --which goes totally against our constitutional rights.
HSUS/PETA have become wealthy and recognized as caring about animals because they use emotions to bolster their case ---they never use true, unvarnished, undistorted, unmisrepresented facts and most people whose hearts are compassionate are taken in.
HSUS/PETA, on the surface, seem to really care for the animals but that is just a facade ---there is so much more going on, hidden from the public.
Did you know the proposed administrator of information and regulatory affairs in the new regime is an ardent animal rights zealot and, among many other things, he believes that animals should have the right to sue? That goes hand in hand with the changing of animal "owners" to "guardians" and with the law schools now offering the new specialty of "dog law" we, who love all the creatures of the earth, are in big, big trouble.
Oops --sorry, I get carried away sometimes. The soapbox just kind of falls out of the closet and I can't resist getting up on it and philosophizing away ---you are a victim of my rhetoric.....
