Theconnection from the linux box to the windows share works, when I pause the windows queue I see the jobs arrive.
... so this setup wouldn't be that hard (I got it working for a Ricoh MP7502 with the generic PCL6 driver) if it wasn't for the fact that they have configured this printer with User and Classification codes to track and limit printing. (see attachment "ricoh.png" for an example of what to configure on a windows client)
I already tried to follow the Ricoh FAQ on LinuxFoundation chapter 1.2.3 and entered several of the commands to the Queue Options (see attachment RHEL-Queue.png) but I keep getting the error "You do not have a privilege to use this function. This job has been cancelled."
When checking the network traffic, I notice that Windows Print Server is continuously sending [Get-Printer-Attributes] IPP Request, which will not happen when printing a test page. By the way, cups client only send [Get-Printer-Attributes] IPP Request to Windows Print Server twice after [Print-Job ] IPP Request.
"Microsoft IPP Class Driver" uses IPP 2.0. Unfortunately, the IIS based IPP print server provided with Windows Server (even the very latest version 2022) still uses IPP 1.0 (which was never ratified as an IPP standard and was considered experimental in 1999).
Microsoft has just announced Windows Protected Print Mode (WPP) which is new design that represents one of the largest changes to the Windows Print stack in more than 20 years. Both Windows Server and Windows client use the inbox Microsoft IPP class driver.
We have ricoh "aficio mp c6501" in my job and I try to print from ubuntu 11.04. But it prints some hundred white pages.... When I install the printer, Ubuntu found it but when I try to print.... only white pages.
(1). Install CUPS Gutenprint v5 through repos and then try again after deleting old printer, this time when you choose the RICOH > Aficio MP C2050 driver there will be the Gutenprint option now, ignore recommended and choose Gutenprint!Test print. if thay does not fix, then do (2).
Instead of using the print driver's factory default settings, you can add your own print driver configuration. When the printer is added on the user's computer, the configuration is added as well. That way, the user does not have to make these configuration changes. If you are satisfied with the print driver's factory defaults, you do not need to make a print driver configuration.
Specifies the availability of Installable Options (such as Paper trays, Duplexer, Staple, Hole punch, and Output bins), and for example, Form to tray Assignment. If the print driver is a Universal print driver, you may have to select a Configuration tab and perhaps also set the Printer model.
Open the Advanced tab and select the Printing Defaults button to configure per-printer defaults. Printingdefaults include Advanced Document Settings (such as Print 2-sided, and Print in black), and for example, Finishing Options.
We do not recommend use of Windows class drivers. Class drivers are not uploaded to thePrintix driver store, because they are supposedly distributed withWindows, but availability may vary depending on the version ofWindows. We recommend use of the printer vendor supplied printdrivers and universal print drivers, because these offeradvanced features and better control compared to class drivers.
If the Print driver configuration dialog box closes unexpectedly, it could be because the print driver did not install in a timely manner. Wait a few minutes to allow the print driver to be installed and then try again. Inform Product Support if it still fails.
