Hi all,
Google announced that they will stop updating groups after Feb.22th this year:

What about this newsgroup? As it is directly hosted by Google (can't access it from my NNTP server via Thunderbird), how wlll we still communicate on Aranym?

Is there an alternative like a Discord ?

Cheers,
Jean

Hi Jean,

It seems that the web and email access to google groups will remain. I understand that it is just the Usenet part of it that will end.

Philippe

The news surfaced Thursday in a “Google Groups ending support for Usenet” post on the Groups help forum. “Starting on February 22, 2024, you can no longer use Google Groups (at groups.google.com) to post content to Usenet groups, subscribe to Usenet groups, or view new Usenet content,” the post advises. “You can continue to view and search for historical Usenet content posted before February 22, 2024 on Google Groups.”

Anybody who wants to stay current on Usenet will need to find a new client and network news transfer protocol server–the post advises Googling for help with those things–while the non-Usenet parts of Google Groups will remain as they are today.

If i understand it correctly, that only affects old usenet groups like *.comp.sys.atari. I think we should wait until 22. Feb. and ith our group stops working, look for an alternative. Of course it would be wise to retrieve the list of subscribers first. Petr?

Hi,
Do you know Usenet ? I contribute to Usenet since 30 years in 2024. What
Google means is that Usenet part of Google Groups will become read-only
soon. That doesn't mean that ARAnyM's Team talking Group will disappear.
The announce from Google only concern NNTP servers from the Usenet ...

I hope it helps,

Regards,

Hi all,
You're right, this group is not in usenet so no concern. At least for this shot :-)
