Dear Bassam and Salwa,

This is a good and clear decision.  As much as I tried to be hopeful, I too found that visa application quite daunting.  Most significantly, it requires at least one financial sponsor -- and right now, we don't yet have someone who understands the responsibilities and is will to provide financial sponsorship.

I appreciate the other important work underway, with the Abir's Garden project at Si'ir School.  The legal case on behalf of Abir is critically important.

Your decision to attend the University of Bradford for the 2009/10 school year gives us much more time to prepare -- and many more opportunities to apply for scholarships too.  It is an easier path, and it will be much better to relocate there a month before school starts so that the children can get used to their new neighborhood.

Bassam and Salwa, everyone connected with you is delighted to have this opportunity to work with you -- and we're quite enjoying the opportunity to work with one another too!   We look forward to working through the details with you in the year ahead.

Sincerely,
Donna

P.S.  Next steps:
(1) Visa Applications: find a visa advisor, hopefully at the University of Bradford, who can review Bassam's application and help us sign one or two financial sponsors -- Jim, please ask around at the University.  Irene or Sarah, please call the info numbers listed at http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf5students#Q4 to get their advice.
(2) Scholarship Applications:  Get back in touch with Rotary Jerusalem to see if Bassam can make the deadline (DBW - Done! -- waiting for their reply), other scholarships:  please create a PBWiki link at http://araminscholarshipfund.pbwiki.com and include a link to the application so that Bassam can start filling it out.
(3) Formal Application with the British Schools and Universities Foundation:  should we still set-up a scholarship fund on Facebook?

Dear Bassam, Salwa,and our group,

Bassam,   you may be right - and there is certainly a lot to do if you
don't come this year.  We have spoken about this possibility and it has
its advantages.
My feeling is that we should still make a gigantic effort to get
funding, housing, schools, etc in place, the latter two with Noa's
help.  Noa is our woman in Bradford, and it is great to have you  there.
I can come up if you need hands on  help.
.If Sarah can take on the admin side of the visa, filling in forms and
contacting people etc, perhaps with Irene's contact, it may still just
happen.
And if not, then we'll have it ready for 2009.  Bassam, you can all come
earlier than August, the children can go to English summer groups and
get adjusted before school begins  (I am aware we need to think about
Arab's School Certificate and the effect of missing a year).
I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts - please email asap - yours,
irris.
