I was wondering if it is possible to run SimCity 3000 Unlimited on Windows 10 without OS Virtualization? I was able to run Simcity 3000 natively on all my Windows until Windows 7, However Since Windows 8 it looks like Simcity 3000 or Simcity 3000 Unlimited stopped being compatible on Modern Windows OSes. As a workaround I always install my SimCity 3000 Unlimited Vanilla Disk on a Virtual machine(Using VirtualBox or Vmware) running windows xp. However I wish there would be a better solution in which I could run my Simcity 3000 on my native OS. Having to go through the burden of running a Virtual Machine; while it eats a lot of your memory and processing capabilities, on your pc just to run an old game is neither a practical nor a convenient solution to this problem.
Cracks to run the game without CD are available at www.megagames.com
Search for Simcity 3000 in the cracks section. They also have a 1
mill. cash cheat trainer. Be forewarned that running the crack results
in loss of in-game music only. Sound FX runs perfectly. However, you
can choose to play mp3s in the background by starting Winamp or your
MP3 player before starting the game.Regards,
Sparky
In May 2000, the game was re-released under different names in different regions, such as SimCity 3000 Unlimited (in North America and Oceania), SimCity 3000 Deutschland (Germany), SimCity 3000 Korea (South Korea), SimCity 3000 UK Edition (UK and Ireland) and SimCity 3000 World Edition (other countries), among others. This added, among other things, East Asian and European building sets, additional terrain colors and vegetation types, a snapshot feature, additional music, an improved version of the Building Architect Tool (a pseudo-3D design tool based on cubes), four additional disasters (such as locusts and space junk), additional landmarks (like the Seoul Tower and Helsinki Cathedral), new reward buildings, thirteen scenarios (along with an editor based on Microsoft Access) and a new FMV intro.
Using a no-cd crack that replaces the installed apps (sc3u.exe, baapp.exe) with cracked ones allows the game to launch. Using the no-cd crack is legal only if you own a original copy of SimCity 3000 Unlimited.
The HD resolution patch is compatible with the no-cd patch, but you have to edit a certain line in a hex editor (i.e manually patching the game). Also, using any resolution where either the height or width (or both) is not divisible by 8 will cause the game to crash. Here's a link to the GOG version patch instructions, which I have confirmed also work with the CD version. You will need a hex editor for this, since all the scripts are for windows. _series/simcity_3000_widescreen_patch_instructions/page1
It seens like sometimes the installer fails to finish downloading the installer. Due to the slow internet speeds of the website that hosts the old loki games setup installers. While we dont have a work around the best way to fix it is to download it manually here and then place it in the same folder of this script and your legal Simcity 3000 ISO backup. Which will make the installation work.
Ive tried to install Simcity3000 on my linux machine using my Windows copy of Simcity 3000/3000 unlimited and your installer wont detect or accept them! Your software is broken!!!! Go fix it!!!!
As I stated above in the Readme of this python script github repository the installer will only be able to install and detect this game if its Simcity 3000 or Simcity 3000 Unlimited Linux Edition made by Loki Games. This Software isnt some kind of magic wizard that will be able to turn Simcity for windows into Simcity for linux. Please be aware that Sim City 3000 or Simcity 3000 Unlimited Linux Edition, made by Loki game is a complete distinct version of the Simcity 3000 or Simcity 3000 Unlimited made for Linux. If you want to use your windows version on a Linux machine please go use Wine HQ.
So you still have your original CD copy of Simcity 3000/3000 Unlimited (Linux Edition by Loki Games), but you have no clue on how to make it install and run properly in your Modern Linux Distributions? You came to the right place!
Originally, Maxis planned to make SimCity 3000 a full 3D game. Although employees thought the idea was impractical, the management pushed the idea. The game would have also allowed players to talk to their Sims, as seen in SimCity 64. After a year of development, the game was graphically on par with SimCopter and Streets of SimCity. The game was displayed at the 1997 E3; the experience is still considered an embarrassment and the game was expected to fail at the time.
Most of the gameplay from SimCity 2000 remained in SimCity 3000. The concept of waste management was added as well as the ability to choose from three zoning densities. Also, farms could appear in certain industrial zones.
The idea of dealing with neighboring cities was much expanded in SimCity 3000. Players could negotiate deals to buy or sell electricity, water, and waste management services. The game also introduced business deals. Players would have the option of allowing a certain type of building to be built in their city. If they allowed it to be built, the player receives a certain amount of money, but also has to deal with an undesirable effect.
Players also were given better help. Advisors in SimCity 3000 gave the player in depth advice rather than simply discouraging the player from cutting funding as they did in SimCity 2000. The player also had petitioners, usually citizens from their city, asking for certain ordinances to be enacted or taxes to be cut. The newspapers were replaced with a news ticker. If something was wrong with the player's cities, the news stories would reflect this. If everything was going well, the stories would be humorous nonsense. The ticker would sometimes have a warning of a disaster to come.
Graphically, SimCity 3000 improved upon its predecessor. Buildings were grouped together more rigorously by economic class, creating distinct neighborhoods. The ground had grass and varied in color with elevation. The land had five levels of steepness instead of one. Instead of only pine trees, SimCity 3000 added several types of trees, with oaks being prevalent. On the other hand, SimCity 3000 got rid of the waterfalls introduced in SimCity 2000.
SimCity 3000 was released for the PC, Unix (FreeBSD) and Linux (by Loki) in 2000, also going under the name SimCity 3000 World Edition. The game included new landmarks, disasters, maps, music, terrain, scenarios, and building sets for Europe and Asia. Also new was Building Architect Tool, a scenario generator, and a landscape generator.
SimCity DS was released for Nintendo DS in 2007. It is an enhanced re-release of SimCity 3000. Although almost entirely the same as SimCity 3000 (Besides the touch screen controls and removal of some buildings, such as the World Trade Center), it was renamed to SimCity DS for unknown reasons.
SimCity Creator is another port of SimCity 3000, however this time it added features from later games such as day and night cycles, season cycles and some more tiny features. It released in 2008. Another exclusive feature is the ability to share cities through Wiiconnect24 on the Wii, although this feature was shut down on June 28th, 2013 due to Nintendo terminating all online services for the Wii. [1]
SimCity 4 is the sequel to SimCity 3000. Much of the new features and improved features from 3000 was later brought over to simcity 4 and improved upon. SimCity DS and Simcity Creator are both Enhanced ports of 3000, with minor changes.
