Message to Israeli Academics

Greetings of Knowledge, Culture, Achievement, and History
I salute every Israeli who has demonstrated the moral courage to defend human rights, human dignity, and reject injustice, hatred, and extremism. History remembers not only those who possess power, but also those who possess the courage to stand for humanitarian principles when doing so is difficult.
I welcome the thousands of Israeli academics, researchers, and intellectuals who have joined the networks of the Arab Translators Association (ARTA). During the past week alone, more than 2,000 academics and researchers from the Weizmann Institute of Science, along with hundreds from the Open University of Israel, Ariel University, and the Technion, joined our networks, in addition to academics, professionals, and intellectuals from other institutions.
I would also like to clarify that the decision of the Executive Council of the Arab Translators Association to honor the leaders of certain Israeli academic institutions whose scholars have joined our networks was not a political decision. Rather, it was intended as a profound ethical, cultural, and humanitarian message to Israeli society. A Palestinian living under occupation cannot honor injustice, occupation, or violations of human rights. However, he can send a civilized message that knowledge, education, culture, and humanity are the shortest path toward respect, justice, and peace.
History has shown that academics have always been at the forefront of reform, enlightenment, and positive change. Professors, researchers, and scientists are not only producers of knowledge; they also bear a moral responsibility toward their societies and humanity as a whole.
As Israel approaches its upcoming elections, I call upon Israeli academics to lead a genuine cultural, ethical, and humanitarian revolution—one that restores the values of justice, human rights, and human dignity, and confronts extremism, hatred, racism, and the promotion of war.
In recent years, Israel has paid a heavy price in terms of its international image and reputation. In an era of open media, advanced technology, and instant communication, facts can no longer be hidden, nor can public awareness be shaped independently of the realities witnessed by people around the world.
The responsibility of an academic is not merely to repeat what politicians say, but to possess the intellectual and moral courage to defend truth and humanity. Science without ethics loses its purpose, culture without conscience loses its value, and a university that fails to defend human dignity loses part of its historic mission.
I invite you to become ambassadors for human rights, justice, and humanity; to raise your voices in defense of freedom, human dignity, the rule of law, and respect for every human being; and to help transform the negative image that many people around the world have formed through courageous ethical positions that reflect the very best of the Israeli academic community.
Today, the world needs the voices of scholars and intellectuals far more than it needs the voices of extremists. It needs those who build awareness, hope, and a better future—not those who expand the circles of fear, hatred, and conflict.
History remembers not only those who held authority and power, but also those men and women of conscience and courage who stood for humanitarian principles when their societies and humanity needed them most.

מסר לאקדמאים הישראלים
ברכות של ידע, תרבות, הישגים והיסטוריה
אני מצדיע לכל ישראלי שהפגין אומץ מוסרי בהגנה על זכויות האדם, כבוד האדם, ודחיית עוול, שנאה וקיצוניות. ההיסטוריה אינה זוכרת רק את בעלי הכוח, אלא גם את בעלי המצפון והאומץ שעמדו לצד ערכים אנושיים כאשר הדבר היה קשה.
אני מברך על הצטרפותם של אלפי אקדמאים, חוקרים ואנשי רוח ישראלים לרשתות של אגודת המתרגמים הערבים (ARTA). במהלך השבוע האחרון בלבד הצטרפו יותר מ־2,000 אקדמאים וחוקרים ממכון ויצמן למדע, לצד מאות אקדמאים מהאוניברסיטה הפתוחה בישראל, מאוניברסיטת אריאל ומהטכניון, וכן אקדמאים, אנשי מקצוע ואנשי תרבות ממוסדות נוספים.
ברצוני להבהיר כי החלטת הוועד המנהל של אגודת המתרגמים הערבים להוקיר את ראשי כמה מוסדות אקדמיים ישראליים, שחוקריהם הצטרפו לרשתות שלנו, לא הייתה החלטה פוליטית. מטרתה הייתה להעביר מסר מוסרי, תרבותי ואנושי עמוק לחברה הישראלית. פלסטיני החי תחת כיבוש אינו יכול לכבד עוול, כיבוש או פגיעה בזכויות אדם. אך הוא יכול להעביר מסר תרבותי ואנושי שלפיו ידע, השכלה, תרבות ואנושיות הם הדרך הקצרה ביותר לכבוד, צדק ושלום.
ההיסטוריה מלמדת כי אנשי אקדמיה עמדו תמיד בחזית התיקון, ההשכלה והשינוי החיובי. פרופסורים, חוקרים ומדענים אינם רק יוצרי ידע; הם נושאים גם באחריות מוסרית כלפי החברה שלהם וכלפי האנושות כולה.
לקראת הבחירות הקרובות בישראל, אני קורא לאקדמאים הישראלים להוביל מהפכה תרבותית, מוסרית ואנושית אמיתית — מהפכה שתחזיר למרכז את ערכי הצדק, זכויות האדם וכבוד האדם, ותתמודד עם קיצוניות, שנאה, גזענות והסתה למלחמות.
בשנים האחרונות שילמה ישראל מחיר כבד מבחינת תדמיתה והמוניטין שלה בעולם. בעידן של תקשורת פתוחה, טכנולוגיה מתקדמת וזרימת מידע מיידית, אי אפשר עוד להסתיר עובדות או לעצב את תודעת העמים בנפרד מן המציאות שהעולם כולו רואה.
תפקידו של איש האקדמיה אינו רק לחזור על דברי פוליטיקאים, אלא לגלות אומץ אינטלקטואלי ומוסרי בהגנה על האמת ועל האדם. מדע ללא מוסר מאבד את ייעודו, תרבות ללא מצפון מאבדת את ערכה, ואוניברסיטה שאינה מגינה על כבוד האדם מאבדת חלק משליחותה ההיסטורית.
אני מזמין אתכם להיות שגרירים של זכויות האדם, הצדק והאנושות; להשמיע את קולכם למען החירות, כבוד האדם, שלטון החוק והכבוד לכל אדם; ולתרום לשינוי התדמית השלילית שנוצרה בעיני רבים בעולם באמצעות עמדות מוסריות אמיצות המשקפות את המיטב שבקהילה האקדמית בישראל.
העולם זקוק כיום לקולם של חוקרים, מדענים ואנשי רוח יותר משהוא זקוק לקולם של קיצונים. הוא זקוק למי שבונים תודעה, תקווה ועתיד טוב יותר, ולא למי שמרחיבים את מעגלי הפחד, השנאה והסכסוך.
ההיסטוריה אינה זוכרת רק בעלי סמכות וכוח, אלא גם נשים וגברים בעלי מצפון ואומץ שעמדו לצד ערכים אנושיים כאשר עמיהם והאנושות נזקקו להם יותר מכל.

رسالة إلى الأكاديميين الإسرائيليين
تحية العلم والثقافة والإنجاز والتاريخ
أحيي كل إسرائيلي امتلك الشجاعة الأخلاقية للدفاع عن حقوق الإنسان والكرامة الإنسانية ورفض الظلم والكراهية والتعصب، لأن التاريخ لا يتذكر أصحاب القوة وحدهم، بل يتذكر أيضًا أصحاب الضمير الذين امتلكوا الشجاعة للوقوف إلى جانب المبادئ الإنسانية عندما كان ذلك صعبًا.
وأرحب بانضمام آلاف الأكاديميين والباحثين والمثقفين الإسرائيليين إلى شبكات جمعية المترجمين العرب (ARTA). وخلال الأسبوع الماضي وحده، انضم أكثر من 2000 أكاديمي وباحث من معهد وايزمان للعلوم، ومئات الأكاديميين من الجامعة المفتوحة في إسرائيل، وجامعة أريئيل، ومعهد التخنيون، إضافة إلى أكاديميين ومهنيين ومثقفين من مؤسسات أخرى.
كما أود أن أوضح أن قرار المجلس التنفيذي لجمعية المترجمين العرب بتكريم رؤساء بعض المؤسسات الأكاديمية الإسرائيلية التي انضم أكاديميوها إلى شبكاتنا لم يكن قرارًا سياسيًا، بل كان رسالة أخلاقية وثقافية وإنسانية موجهة إلى المجتمع الإسرائيلي. فالفلسطيني الذي يعيش تحت الاحتلال لا يمكن أن يكرم الظلم أو الاحتلال أو انتهاك حقوق الإنسان، لكنه يستطيع أن يوجه رسالة حضارية مفادها أن العلم والمعرفة والثقافة والإنسانية هي الطريق الأقصر نحو الاحترام والعدالة والسلام.
لقد أثبت التاريخ أن الأكاديميين كانوا دائمًا في مقدمة حركات الإصلاح والتنوير والتغيير. فالأستاذ الجامعي والباحث والعالم لا يحملون مسؤولية إنتاج المعرفة فحسب، بل يتحملون أيضًا مسؤولية أخلاقية تجاه مجتمعاتهم والإنسانية جمعاء.
ومع اقتراب الانتخابات الإسرائيلية القادمة، أدعو الأكاديميين الإسرائيليين إلى قيادة ثورة ثقافية وأخلاقية وإنسانية حقيقية، ثورة تعيد الاعتبار لقيم العدالة وحقوق الإنسان والكرامة الإنسانية، وتواجه التطرف والكراهية والعنصرية والتحريض على الحروب.
لقد دفعت إسرائيل خلال السنوات الأخيرة ثمنًا باهظًا على مستوى صورتها وسمعتها الدولية. وفي عصر الإعلام المفتوح والتكنولوجيا والاتصال الفوري، لم يعد بالإمكان إخفاء الحقائق أو إعادة تشكيل وعي الشعوب بعيدًا عن الوقائع التي يشاهدها العالم بأسره.
إن مسؤولية الأكاديمي ليست أن يردد ما يقوله السياسيون، بل أن يمتلك الشجاعة الفكرية والأخلاقية للدفاع عن الحقيقة والإنسان. فالعلم بلا أخلاق يفقد رسالته، والثقافة بلا ضمير تفقد قيمتها، والجامعة التي لا تدافع عن الكرامة الإنسانية تفقد جزءًا من رسالتها التاريخية.
إنني أدعوكم إلى أن تكونوا سفراء لحقوق الإنسان والعدالة والإنسانية، وأن ترفعوا أصواتكم دفاعًا عن قيم الحرية والكرامة الإنسانية وسيادة القانون واحترام الإنسان، وأن تسهموا في تغيير الصورة السلبية التي تشكلت لدى كثير من شعوب العالم من خلال مواقف أخلاقية شجاعة تعكس أفضل ما في المجتمع الأكاديمي الإسرائيلي.
إن العالم يحتاج اليوم إلى أصوات العلماء والمفكرين أكثر من حاجته إلى أصوات المتطرفين. ويحتاج إلى من يبني الوعي والأمل والمستقبل، لا إلى من يوسع دوائر الخوف والكراهية والصراع.
التاريخ لا يتذكر فقط أصحاب السلطة والقوة، بل يتذكر أيضًا أصحاب الضمير والشجاعة الذين وقفوا إلى جانب المبادئ الإنسانية عندما احتاجتهم شعوبهم والإنسانية.
