Subject: Rock Paper Scissors Tournament at ARA Convention
Importance: High
Good Afternoon AE’s & Presidents,
Rock Paper Scissors Tournament Benefitting Special Olympics Arkansas
At the leadership retreat last year, we held a Rock Paper Scissors tournament to raise money for Past President Bill Ladd. Afterwards, President Ron Stinchcomb asked that all boards hold a tournament throughout the year to raise money for Special Olympics Arkansas. We will be hosting a tournament at the Convention this year and Ron would like to see a representative from each board compete in it. The winner of your local board’s tournament will be your board’s representative at Convention (if they cannot make it to the convention, they can designate someone from your board to take their place.)
Each competitor at the state competition ($100 entry fee) will compete at the kick off social until there are 2 winners left. Those competitors will duel it out at the Opening Session the next morning for the championship match. What’s the prize you ask?? Each entry fee will go into a pot and the winner’s local board will get that pot added to their fundraising totals for the 2017 SOAR fundraising awards (this year’s awards will have already been made). So, if all 28 boards has a competitor, the winning member’s board will start their 2017 fundraising year out with $2,800!
The South Central REALTORS® Association (formerly Benton/Bryant REALTORS® Association) held their tournament on Wednesday and also plan to hold another one in July and then the winners of each will face off one last time before that winner competes at Convention. At their first tournament, Camie Powell from SOAR came and played a short video that showed attendees where their donations are going, which in turn garnered more donations. With 31 people competing ($20 entry fee) and other donations, they raised almost $1,200. {Way to go guys!!!} This money will be added to their total for this year’s SOAR Awards that will be given out at Convention and the same will happen with the proceeds from your board’s tournament(s).
Another idea: If your board has big, and perhaps competitive, offices; Ron said that their board is asking each office to hold a tournament. A winner from each office will compete in the local board tournament and that winner will compete at the state competition.
Your tournament can be held at one of your membership meetings or other functions. It’s pretty simple to set up, you’ll need competitors and a bracket. If you were at the leadership retreat you saw how we made a giant bracket and had a few matches going on at one time because we had so many competitors and how much fun we all had. Camie from SOAR would love to have a Special Olympian there too! This is such a fun and easy way to make money for such a great cause & I really hope you all take part in it! How awesome would it be to see someone from each local board represented!
If you have any questions on how to get started let me know!
Also, SOAR Raffle tickets will be sent out by next week. Could you please let me know who your SOAR chairman is or who I would need to send these to if it’s someone other than your board?
Thanks,
Emily Morgan
