I explained today's vegan webinar as follows:
You may have missed Dr. Will Tuttle debating Dr. Sailesh Rao on the reality of climate disruption and change with Dr. Clare Mann (of Australia, the Vystopia theorist/counselor/psychologist) moderating - and the entire 100 minutes was supported ty Dr. Peter Goldstein, founder of
www.TheVeganCommunity.orgHealing Polarization on Climate Change: Considerations for Effective Vegan AdvocacyWill Tuttle (reared Unitarian in Transcendentalist Concord) turned Buddhist says that evidence for global climate disruption is (a) limited and (b) possibly very deceptive because counter-arguments could be advanced, and he showed that. He argued that the predominant consensus ought not to be uncritically accepted (even by those whose 'limited cognitive capacities' do not allow them to 'vet' the claims of dominant ideologies.
Dr. Sailesh Rao says that (a) the scientific consensus is clear AND (b) we do ourselves "political harm" by denying the scientific consensus (which he believes to be accurate). His historic work in computer science and geophysical sciences is significant, and he is aggressively messaging scientific communities about the roles of animal agriculture in fueling planetary-level climate disruption (which is change).
Ending "the killing machine" (Dr. Rao's framing) is the consensus we all need to adopt, and they did.
I framed it as (a) if all of us went vegan, (b) there could still be profound disagreements about (i) what is real and (ii) what is important in that decision to be vegan (the important and good rationales for veganism).
