Sheila,
please send an email telling
your member of Congress to vote “no” on
CISPA.This Thursday the House of
Representatives is scheduled to vote on CISPA, the latest
legislation intended to stifle internet freedom under the
guise of “cybersecurity.” The irony is the text of the bill
doesn’t even define
"cybersecurity." That makes the legislation dangerously
broad, and opens the door to massive, previously illegal,
privacy violations by companies and the
government.
CISPA allows companies and the government
to bypass existing laws in order to monitor our
communications, filter content, or potentially even shut
down access to online services for undefined “cybersecurity"
purposes. But what it doesn't do is provide any new
protections for critical infrastructure systems, like
electrical grids and water supplies. Some security that
is!
Back in January, internet freedom activists
banded together to stop SOPA and PIPA. We can stop CISPA
too, as the White House is already raising concerns about
it.
