Hi Chief,

The 2014 AR and 2017 AM both indicate 6 hours, but the undated FAQ indicates12 hours.  What is the correct number of minimum ON AIR hours per quarter?

What are the requirements to become a MARS volunteer?  In order to apply for MARS membership, the applicant must be 18 years of age; hold a General Class Federal Communication Commission Amateur Radio license; have access to High Frequency radio equipment capable of operating from 2-30 MHz; be of good moral character; and be willing to commit a minimum of 12 hours on the air per quarter.

From AM-1 March 2017:

A.4. ACTIVITY REPORTING
As a unique cadre of experienced volunteers, individual members are expected to meet a
minimum training requirement to retain their skills.
To assess readiness, monthly reports are required from all members. These reports indicate
the status of the members AMARS station, and time spent training for MARS activity.
 A minimum of 12 hours over a consecutive 3 month period, 6 of which must be on the
air in HF radio operations
, is required of Individual MARS members to retain
membership. Amateur Radio activity does not meet this requirement

From AR 25-6 2014:

3–2. Participation requirementsa. All individual Army MARS members and civilian stations are required to participate and file a monthly report.b. A minimum of 12 hours over a consecutive three-month period consisting of at least six hours of HF operations isrequired to retain membership. Auxiliary members are not required to meet the on-air requirements.

Thanks for your time and all that you do for MARS.

Regards,

It is 12/6.  The new regulation was just published and now it is 72 per year.

I'll take updating the FAQ for action.
