It always happens when the file has been modified since the last save; I don't believe it happens otherwise. I tried it in GNU emacs and it doesn't happen. I also tried it with the 'Run without customizations' function and it still happened. I'm running Aquamacs 2.4, OS X 10.8.2 on late-2010 17" MacBook Pro. I tried to use the bug reporting function, but that only created an Error 414: URL too long, because I have mailto links set to open in Gmail.

So, what do I have to do to reproduce this?
I have loaded it in 2.4 and changes something, following which the CPU usage did not go up to 100%.

Try adding a space before 'accum', and then hitting tab in the hopes that auto-indentation will make it go away.

Were you able to reproduce this bug? I ran into it again, and wondered if there was anything I could try other than killing aquamacs and changing the file and trying not to hit tab on that line.

This is probably of zero practical use, but I did want to chime in and say that I've also run into what is probably the same bug while editing Python files.

What I observed is that several times my CPU has pegged and aquamacs has become unresponsive while editing Python files.  Note that this is "several times" in thousands of hours of use...

By the way, it's the New Year - perhaps it's time for the Aquamacs team to send out a polite note asking for donations?  I don't think I've sent you money in the last year, for example...

Don't worry about being annoying - asking for a tip once a year is hardly unreasonable.

Open it in 3.0a, go to the bottom, run M-x which-function-mode.

I suppose it’s caused by the absence of this patch (unverified): http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~python-mode-devs/python-mode/python-mode/revision/1336
