Aquamacs (nighlies, preview of 2) seems to have autofill as a default minor mode for text mode. I'm thinking this might be a mistake for 2010--we seem to be going to the mode of long lines as paragraphs for text, and apps are supposed to do the right thing, especially on the Mac.

The entries in the options menu make it very easy to turn this off of course.

Incidentally, what the March 9 manual says about this isn't exactly correct:

> You can control the default, e.g., for new files, by setting ‘auto-word-wrap-default-function’ to ‘turn-on- word-wrap’ using Options / Customize Emacs / Specific Options.

Problem: Under Options-->Customize Emacs, there is no menu entry: Specific Options.

(I wouldn't even have noticed such things a few years ago, because I used to have a long Preferences.el Aquamacs has become so nearly perfect that I no longer do.)

It's not a right thing, but I also can't reproduce it. Starting Aquamacs without customizations (Help/Diagnose menu), text buffers have Wrap enabled, but not auto-fill-mode.

Thanks, I'll fix this.

:-) Thanks

Not sure what's going on here.

I have the menu entry Options / Customize Aquamacs / Specific Option (singular) right there.

I suspect you have a much more fundamental problem with your installation, if this is missing, but a "Customize Emacs" (rather than Aquamacs) exists. Check your *Messages*, and make sure it's the right Aquamacs version you're starting.
