In Tank Two the wood shrimp seems to be growing roots, as it is
potted in front of the water pump outlet most of the time. It remains
there in the filtering position, maybe 50 minutes per hour given a
twenty-four hour period average. About four minutes, goes to
'sweeping' the wood for food, and the remaining 6 minutes clinging
upside down pressed along the wood (wonderfully camouflaged). When it
was younger, a few molts back, it didn't hide like this. Also, it
assumes the prone hide position when the pump outlet isn't pumping out
the blend of Infusoria to it's liking. Lately it has gotten a greater
ratio of cultured Chlorella, but I have been out for a few days, and
started a new batch. I have noticed of the culture tanks, that at
first (about one week) it is cloudy and has a rotten odor, but then it
starts to clear, and about two weeks into it, the culture will begin to
give off a chloride odor, just before the desired algae bloom
occurrence. Yeah, I need a social life, you may be thinking. Anywho
-- I will now start another Infusoria batch, about one week after the
algae blooms in this batch. In this way I avoid those days without.
College will turn more red, as stress indicator -- without that
Infusoria less higher levels of Chlorella and Diatoms. Next week I
should have a new tool, the 60x -- 100x Lumagny lighted microscope. A
small (and cheap) microscope to better account and control the
Infusoria blend.
Present parameters; Tank Two is a 30 gallon tank holding about 23
gallons of fresh water with no addition Dr. Wells freshwater aquarium
salt, pH 8.0 and stable. Iodine added 3 drops this week. Carbonate
hardness of 2.5 and stable, water temp 26c dropping to 23c during
night. Low levels of nitrate, stable. Daphinia population small and
stable. Blood worms population exhausted. Hydra population exhausted.
Common water Snails small and stable, slower harvesting in effect.
Cyclops population small and stable. Java ferns (4) stable and barely
growing.
Java moss (four bunches) stable and barely growing. Amazon swords (2)

flora stable and growing. Lotus (1) flora stable and rapidly growing.
UnID "Spout"grass flora, stable and growing. UnID "I" worms population

small and stable. The wood shrimp about is about 6.7 centimeters in
length.
