I broke my own rule. Rather than producing twin infusoria
concatenations from 07IB-08; only one batch (09) was cultivated, and
the results failed to generate the desired levels of rotifer. 09 did
yeild larva for the betta and mosquito fish -- but visual indicators by
microscope, as well the posture of College spelled out, a bad batch.
The milder weather, plus the addition of repeated pinches of yeast into
07 and 08 have resulted in the batches lasting longer than planned --
thankfully. Today 10-11IB
will be generated, and expect good levels of infusoria in 5 to 10 days
and the adherance to my own protocol will be observed.
I have now care for six of the seven mosquito fish in Tank Two.
Four females and two males. One of the females escaped the new
hospital (Tank 5) to become cat food. The "Aquatic Gardens Mini-Life
Aquarium One Gallon Kit" bought from Petco, God bless them, is a tank
without a lid. Though I fashioned a mess, of course, the ich treatment
involved female managed to breech the tank from a corner that had an
opening.
The morleti botia (skunk loach) put on some pounds in Tank One. I
haven't changed the water in about eight months, and because of the
snails and plants thriving, the feedings were kept to once a week and
at night. I only knew it was alive because of the noise it made when
it found a snail of food tablet. Yesterday after about a week without
tablets, it was fed during the day. This paranoid fish, with much
caution emerged -- and boy is it fat.
The wood shrimp College is doing well, as expected.
Present parameters; Tank Two is a 30 gallon tank holding about 23
gallons of fresh water, pH 7.8 and stable. Two drops of Iodine added
this
week. 25% water change last week. Carbonate hardness of 2.5 and,
water temp
25.5C during the day dropping to 21C during night. Low levels of
nitrate, stable. Daphinia population exhausted. Blood worms
population exhausted. Hydra population small and growing population.
Common water Snails small and stable. Cyclops population small and
stable. Java ferns (4) stoped growing. Java moss (four bunches)
stable and barely growing. Amazon swords (2) flora stable
and growing. Lotus (1) flora stable and rapidly growing. Sagittaria
subulata, spreading -- now nineteen plants. UnID "I" worms population
small and stable. The Atyopsis moluccensis (College) about is about
5.75 centimeters in length.
"That is all."
