Spreading by "runners" like bamboo, the UnID "Spout"grass flora, has
now been figured to be Dwarf Sag in Tank Two. Strangely the Daphinia
has become exhausted and I suspect it is due two elements; not enough
infusoria added, and the presence of iodine. This loss doesn't appear
to affect College, though the shrimp used to go about sweeping the
buggers up from time to time. Two days ago 06IB (#06 Infusoria Batch)
started, and predictably 05IB attracted a raft of mosquito eggs that
hatched yesterday -- about 120 larva have been observed. At the start
of 07IB, I will also include a batch variance (07IBa) in order to test
run a better Rotifera cultivation without jeopardizing the ongoing
production of zoo/phytoplankton food source for College. The shrimp
appears to be in good condition thus far. Ghosting posts I am finding
that, more folks are not applying proper care of Atyopsis moluccensis,
which is to bad. It is a wonderous animal worth good care. My goal
dares to breed this one some day. I have made mention before and may
repeat often thoughout this journal -- unless one steps up with alot of
time and resource to include money, I do not recommend the novice the
acquisition of Atyopsis moluccensis, aka "wood shrimp" aka "bamboo
shrimp" aka "singapore shrimp." On that note, anyone caught up in the
care of this animal already and wants my advice, drop me an eline. I
will help if I can -- but be warned; my response will problably
recommend spending more money as part of the solution. I am under the
impression that a retail outlet won't readily disclose the complicated
care requirement, convenient for them I guess.
Present parameters; Tank Two is a 30 gallon tank holding about 25
gallons of fresh water, pH 7.6 and stable. Iodine added 8 drops this
week. 25% water change. Carbonate hardness of 2.0 and overall lower,
water temp 25.5C during the day dropping to 22C during night. Low
levels of nitrate, stable. Daphinia population exhausted. Blood worms
population exhausted. Hydra population exhausted. Common water Snails
small and stable. Cyclops population small and stable. Java ferns (4)
stable and barely growing. Java moss (four bunches) stable and barely
growing. Amazon swords (2) flora stable and growing. Lotus (1) flora
stable and rapidly growing. Sagittaria subulata, spreading -- now seven
plants. UnID "I" worms population small and stable. The Atyopsis
moluccensis (College) about is about 5.75 centimeters in length.
"That is all."
