Last week another Atyopsis (Thelma) was introduced to Tank Two. From
past evidence, the sex is female and this wood shrimp is a tad larger
than College. At first College reacted with subtle territory protest,
jamming the front walking leg at the new tankmate when Thelma
approached College, but for the most part both sat on the log netting
infusoria up from the outlet, but about two days ago College started
her shed process, and Thelma moved in to dominate the ideal neeting
spot. Thelma very quickly figured College was out of commission, and
even after College shed yesterday, Thelma still maintains the choice
wood spot. Having no idea how effective the poking deal plays out; I
used a chopstick to slightly prode Thelma in order to get her poking
defensivly. Based on the vibration felt through the chopstick, I
gather that the front walking legs of the females to be a decent weapon
(the males much more pronounced design). The fish have spawned so many
times that I returned two adult females and males to the pond I got
them from. A third generation; nine fry -- a total of forteen. 09IB
lost its daphnia but this mild climate has very much extended the life
of the batch. Still to be save I have now started 14IB.
Present parameters; Tank Two is a 30 gallon tank holding about 27
gallons of fresh water, pH 7.8 and stable. Three drops of Iodine added
this week. 28% water change two weeks ago. Carbonate hardness of 2.2
and, water temp 25.5C during the day dropping to 21C during night. Low
levels of nitrate, stable. Daphnia population exhausted in T2, and
exhausted in 09IB. Blood worms population exhausted. Hydra population
exhausted. Common water Snails small and now growing. Cyclops
population small and stable. Java ferns (2)
stopped growing. Java moss (four bunches) stable and stopped growing.
Amazon swords (2) flora stable and growing. Lotus (1) flora stable
and rapidly growing. Sagittaria subulata, spreading -- now nineteen
plants. UnID "I" worms population small and stable. The Atyopsis
moluccensis (College) about is about 5.75 centimeters in length. The
Atyopsis moluccensis (Thelma) about is about 5.85 centimeters in
length.
"That is all."
