The wood shrimp (Atyopsis Moluccensis) pair (college and Caver)
have given up the filter posture on the wood spots in front of the pump
outlet, since going active carbon in filtration. The both the pair
also displayed greater stress, if I have read the color change
correctly. Yesterday I dropped using the carbon for filtration, and
instead incorporated some bio media in addition to the foam. Today both
reacted to the switch and have reverted back to stream filteration on
the wood -- Caver (smaller) molting the spot. I have increased the
food supply (about double). The ceramic filtration system (Ka'n
filter) I have crafted has been fired, and will be glazed and again
fired this thurday, and this weekend, if it is ready I will replace the
entire existing makeshift filtration with the a first generation,
'stall-chamber-bio-mechanical-ceramic' filtration system -- the Ka'n.
The desire is to control ammonia, nitrates, carbonate hardness, and pH
-- in one shot -- while leaving intact water properties which can
support rotifers, and daphinia. If I correctly designed this
filtration, some of the water will become nutrient rich biomass, while
another part becomes less nutrient rich. Well, that the dream. If
sucessful, the next step -- modify Tank two in such a way.......a small
part (30 gallon holding about 16 gallons), brackish (5 gallons).
Present parameters; Tank Two is a 30 gallon tank holding about 16

gallons of fresh water with about one tea spoon of Dr. Wells freshwater

aquarium salt, pH 7.6 and stable. Iodine added 3 drops this week.
Carbonate hardness of 3.5. and stable, water temp 25c. Daphinia
population exhausted. Blood worms population small and stable. Hydra

population exhausted. Common water Snails small and stable,
harvesting in effect. Cyclops population small and stable. Java ferns
(4)
stable and barely growing. Java moss (four bunches) stable and barely
growing. Amazon swords (2) flora stable and growing. Lotus (1) flora
stable and rapidly growing. UnID "Spout"grass flora, struggling. UnID
"I" worms population small and stable.
