The wood shrimp (Atyopsis Moluccensis) pair (college and Caver) in Tank
Two
is a thing of the past. Late last week, Caver the more frail and
smaller of the pair died.
The cause of death, I have not determined. For the most part, I really
have no idea what I am doing with regard to the care of these animals
-- and I have yet to (YEARS) contact someone who knows the proper care
of wood shrimp. On another sh*tty note -- the ceramic filtration
system (Ka'n filter) I have crafted has been fired again for glaze, but
the person whom fires the ceramics at the Cal State L.A. college
mishandled one of the units components, which resulted in warping the
component into dysfunction. Well -- college looks healthy, and the
existing makeshift biofilter system seems to be stable. Also I have
reintroduced Daphinia into Tank 2, and they are, thus far, doing better
than the last colony -- thirving. I learned a little about glazes and
will recreate a ceramic filteration house, in the near future -- the
K'an Two. I have added some (40-60 grains) yeast into Tank Two in
order to stimulate more biomass, like rotifers. A small colony of
Cyclops have also made a come back.
Present parameters; Tank Two is a 30 gallon tank holding about 16
gallons of fresh water with about one tea spoon of Dr. Wells freshwater
aquarium salt, pH 8.0 and stable. Iodine added 3 drops this week.
Carbonate hardness of 3.5. and stable, water temp 24c. Low levels of
nitrate, stable. Daphinia population small and increasing. Blood
worms population small and stable. Hydra population exhausted. Common
water Snails small and stable, harvesting in effect. Cyclops
population small and growing. Java ferns (4) stable and barely
growing. Java moss (four bunches) stable and barely growing. Amazon
swords (2) flora stable and growing. Lotus (1) flora stable and rapidly
growing. UnID "Spout"grass flora, struggling. UnID "I" worms
population small and growing.
