4. Resistance ended up being more effective than rebellion in defiance
of slavery. One main reason is that the slave revolts and rebellions
ended in the death and execution and didn't change the perspective of
the south's view of slavery. On the other hand, resistance would
deprive slave owners of their property (slaves, machines, etc.) and
make being a slave owner just a little worse for them. This therefore
was more effective than rebellion in working towards the end of
slavery and in improving the slaves lives overall.
5. The slaves of the south maintained their community firstly through
their religion and faith which led to their songs. Their dances and
songs often brought the community together for a common cause: a
better life (some of the songs talked about escaping to the north).
Religion also brought families together with marriages and births of
new family members. The sense of family was extremely important to the
slaves, because it gave them a loving bond and something to look
forward to and to live for. This was why they worked so hard to
maintain their community.
6. there was a price on David Walker's head because of the pamphlet
that he wrote, Walker's Appeal which said that American slavery was
worse than slavery in any other time in history or country. He also
talked about how wrong it was that slaves were not considered human
beings and this infuriated southern slave owners which was why they
placed the price on his head. He was born a free man in the north, but
his father was a slave and he constantly encouraged enslaved people to
strongly fight for their freedom.
