#13: Some evidence is the fact that by the end of the war,
approximately 10% of the union army were american blacks. The blacks
that fought for the union fought hard, because they knew that they
were fighting for their freedom. Historian James Mc Pherson stated
that "without the help of the blacks, the north could not have won the
war as soon as they did, and perhaps could not have won it at all."

#14: Under the confiscation of july 1862, the land was to be returned
to the heirs of the confederate soldiers. The significance of this act
was that the blacks felt that they deserved the land that they poured
their blood into. They didn't see why they should be returned their
land. Dr. John Rock, a black physician in Boston, said "it ought to
be the slave who is compensated, The property of the south is by right
the property of the slave.
