4. Resistance to slavery was much more effective than rebellion
because rebellion required a large, organized group in order to do any
damage which caused revolts to fail. Resistance, however, impeded work
and often prevented punishments without requiring more than one
individual.

5. The slaves managed to maintain a community by creating a sort of
"extended kinship system in which all adults looked after all
children..." (177). They strove to protect their community because
they valued their love of family as it was one of the few things that
their slave owners couldn't take away from them.
