9. The triple hurdle was a roadblock that many black had to interface
with. The first was black people being abolitionists in a slave
society, secondly, was black among white reformers, and lastly, was
women being in a reform movement controlled by men.

10. In Lincoln's slavery debate, he was compelled to speak on both
sides of slavery because he was trying to not upset the border states.
If he had spoken strongly of abolition, the border states would have
slipped away straight to the South. He was trying to keep them loyal
or at least neutral. He was also trying to simply calm the United
States of America down. Many people were steaming on this hot topic so
this gave him time to think about his future moves.
