Please tell me - I somehow periodically hangs job - as a result when you try to start the next job in the message log
skipped: maximum number of running instances reached (1)
is it possible in any way to kill the previous instance of the task?

Threads cannot be forcibly terminated. You have to build some kind of a
timeout mechanism to your code. As for how, that depends on what you're
doing there.
