I have gotten a TNC2S with The Firmware version 2.4c - DAMA/SMACK (10 channel).
I got stuck in how to make this tnc work.
When connected to a terminal, after power up it says TNC2S with The Firmware version 2.4c - DAMA/SMACK (10 channel) etc, and then i can put it into KISS mode using the command Esc@K[Enter}
The manual states that APRX can work with SMACK, but i am stuck at how to set the config file for aprx.

I have tried:

serial-device /dev/usb/tts/0 9600 8n1 KISS
initstring "\033\@k\x0d"   # should be the sequence for Esc@k{enter}
but it did not work.

serial-device /dev/usb/tts/0 9600 8n1 SMACKalso did not work....

Anyone out there who can help ?

Hello Erik,

Check the TNC and seek a dip switch to change it into smack, With the smack file that is on the symek webpage, my Paccom Tiny 2 - MK2 only blinks three times and it’s already on kiss mode.

If your tnc has a 512k eprom, you have a switch to change between the two parts of the eprom.

Good luck!

Fran, thanks for the tip.
I got it sorted out
With the dip-witches I can choose either the smack prom or a tapr 1.1.6 I had laying around. With the tapr prom everything is smooth.

However,
In smack mode i had to add  initstring "\x1b@K\x0d".... to the init file to make the modem swith to KISS.
My firmware, after i reboot the tnc, is NOT in KISS hence the work around.
However, I am still left with a problem that if i do not switch on the tnc after the router, it only works on a restart.
Still working on it....

Erik

Hi,

the idea whit  "\x1b@K\x0d"  works her also not. I use the Version 2.7 but this is the normal setup in DL so any idea??

Can tell me someone the secret?

I use this with TNC2 Stabo (TheFirmware):

# tnc2 stabo
<interface>
    serial-device /dev/ttyUSB0 9600 8n1 KISS
    timeout 5m
    initstring "\x00"
    callsign SQ7MRU-10
    tx-ok true
</interface>

For me, today the "\x1b@K\x0d" worked fine! Thank you! 73 de HB9VQY, Marius

TF2.4 doesn't support KISS!!
The only way is to change EPROM updated to TF2.7b or simple KISS FW (the best - no need reboot when fails power of TNC).

Hope you have somebody, who can burn it to 27C256 EPROM.
